Elementary School Lead Guide (Teacher) – Kindergarten & Grade 1

Galileo Preparatory Academy

Position Overview

Do you believe children learn best through curiosity, hands-on exploration, meaningful relationships, and individualized support? Are you excited by the idea of helping children develop strong academic foundations while nurturing independence, confidence, character, and a lifelong love of learning?

Galileo Preparatory Academy (GPA) is a learner-centered school that blends innovative educational practices with a deep respect for child development. Our K-1 program incorporates project-based learning, self-paced academics, social-emotional learning, growth mindset development, and dedicated Montessori work time. Our goal is to help learners build concentration, independence, and foundational academic skills through hands-on materials and purposeful work.

This position is for a Kindergarten and Grade 1 Lead Guide (Teacher). We are seeking an educator who is eager to help create a joyful, engaging learning environment where children feel known, valued, challenged, and supported. Our students include learners with a variety of strengths, interests, learning profiles, and support needs, and we believe every child deserves an educational experience tailored to their unique needs.

The Guide will work in the classroom Monday through Thursday, with additional hours outside of the school day as needed for planning, documentation, family communication, and administrative responsibilities.

Position Description

The Guide will work with GPA administration to:

Create and maintain a warm, engaging, and well-organized learning environment that fosters independence, responsibility, and a love of learning.
Teach foundational literacy and mathematics skills through a combination of direct instruction, small-group learning, individualized support, Montessori materials, and individualized academic work.
Guide learners during dedicated work periods, presenting lessons and helping students develop concentration, independence, responsibility, and ownership of their learning.
Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, projects, and investigations that spark curiosity and connect learning to the real world.
Lead morning meetings, discussions, read-alouds, and community-building activities that strengthen communication skills, confidence, and relationships.
Observe learners closely and provide individualized support based on each child’s developmental readiness, strengths, interests, and learning needs.
Monitor and track student progress in reading, writing, mathematics, and social-emotional development.
Support learners in developing self-regulation, problem-solving skills, responsibility, and positive peer relationships.
Provide meaningful feedback to students and families regarding academic, social, emotional, and personal growth.
Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and caregivers.
Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to ensure all learners receive appropriate support and challenge.
Complete onboarding training and ongoing professional development as directed by administrative staff.
Embody a growth mindset and model curiosity, kindness, flexibility, and lifelong learning.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required
Experience working with or teaching young children, preferably in Kindergarten, Grade 1, early elementary, Montessori, or other child-centered learning environments
Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
Strong understanding of early literacy and mathematics development
Montessori experience or training (strongly preferred)
Experience supporting learners with diverse learning needs (strongly preferred)
Innovative and entrepreneurial spirit
Deep respect for children and belief that every child possesses unique strengths and potential
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong classroom management, relationship-building, and organizational skills
Curiosity, flexibility, creativity, and a love of lifelong learning
