Full Job Description

Surgery Scheduler-Ophthalmology

JOB SUMMARY
Coordinates with patients, physicians and surgery centers to schedule surgeries with minimal guidance.
Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and fosters effective communication.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Coordinates surgery schedule with patient, physician and surgery centers, in support of surgery scheduling function.
● Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for procedure, obtains precertification, and discusses potential financial obligations with the patient.
● Obtains precertification or proper insurance approval prior to surgical procedures.
● Notifies and forwards paperwork for insurance certification to the billing office and obtains additional paperwork if needed.
● Completes necessary paperwork for the surgical chart that is needed by the physician and surgery centers.
● Orders tissues from the eye bank when needed.
● Monitors surgery schedule and ensures optimization of resources and workflow.
● The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
● Surgery Scheduling: The ability to coordinate and schedule surgeries within various computer systems between practice management software in the clinic and portals in the hospital.
● Patient Documentation: The ability to receive and record correct patient information.
● Patient Scheduling: The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.
● Medical Terminology & Documentation: The ability to comprehend medical terminology and documentation in an office, or surgical setting.

Experience Level:
2 years medical scheduling preferred, but not required
Ophthalmology experience preferred, but not required

Education:
High School Diploma or GED

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38.50 – 41.50 per week
