The Workshop/Learning Lab Specialist position provides contributions to the overall management and direction individualized and program specific instruction to participants with a primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Staff are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the areas outlined below:
DUTIES:
Develops and facilitates regular job search workshops for clients, including providing information on resumes, job search, interviewing, and networking.
Responsible to create and/or deliver in demand workshops and contribute to the overall management and direction of the workshop system.
Develop plans to improve customer service through product development and delivery through staff involvement.
Assist management in the development, testing and launch of a range of new workshop products and services that support the WorkOne system.
Assist with managing, evaluating, and modifying product’s effectiveness with on-going products.
Assist with scheduling workshops and other product events for individual locations and the region as needed.
Prepare monthly workshop calendars in collaboration with other WorkOne system partners.
Prepare and submit workshop Sign-In sheets and other forms/documentation as required.
Responsible for developing and delivering standardized lesson based upon participant needs and delivering instruction in a conducive learning environment.
Assist participants reach ISS & IEP goals by supervising their classroom performance and assessing their skill levels,
Utilize contextualized learning materials related to in demand Career Pathways on a regular basis.
Utilize effective classroom management skills; assist, advise and counsel a diverse student population with regard to program polices and standards while demonstrating sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
When providing training and other direct services, enters service information into the appropriate customer tracking database.
Enter attendance daily into case management system for workshops, adding customized case notes.
Must be able to project a professional image in manner and appearance.
Monitor product’s effectiveness, evaluate customer satisfaction and modify as appropriate.
Using internal or customer generated input, identify demand for new and innovative products and services, assist in development for implementation by WorkOne staff and vendors as necessary.
Reengage clients for additional workshops and schedule them for workshops.
Prepare/Ensure training computer labs with technology and supplies as needed.
Refer clients to appropriate Career Navigators.
Build and maintain good working relationships with all coworkers and management in all locations.
Keep management updated with needed information.
Reschedule clients as needed for workshops updating Scheduler, sending written confirmations, with changes.
Assists clients with writing and revision of job search paperwork, including employment applications, cover letters, resumes, reference letters, thank you letters. Provides practice interviews and networking tips. .
Maintains knowledge of other community agencies and programs and training offered.
May occasionally assist with special projects, including, but not limited to, outreach programs, and corrections project. May occasionally assist with arranging classroom furniture, office equipment, and heavy objects.
Prepares monthly report, documenting accomplishments.
Submits data directly into Indiana Career Connect (ICC) in a timely and efficient manner.
Incumbent will cover the duties of all other positions, when deemed necessary by management.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Human Resources, or related field and/or equivalent experience required.
Ability to meet all hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
Working knowledge of standard office procedures, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to conduct public presentations and prepare detailed written reports as required.
Ability to properly operate standard office equipment, including computer, printer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, postage machine, and telephone.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, other community organizations, social service agencies, educational institutions, various employers, training providers, clients, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
Ability to provide a variety of services for clientele regarding education, employment, and life-support, including referrals, counseling sessions, and follow-up sessions.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and work with others in a team environment.
Ability to plan and present public speaking presentations regarding JobWorks, Inc.
Ability to compile, analyze and evaluate data, make determinations, and present findings in oral or written form.
Ability to maintain materials in an organized manner.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.

Responsible for filing and maintaining thorough, accurate participate records, including
assessments, assignments, tests, reports, performing data entry and other program related information as required.
Will maintain communication with program and partner staff in order to outline individual participant progress toward meeting goals established in the ISS/IEP.
Must be familiar with the Local and Regional Plans and will shape instruction to meet the demands of individual student needs as well as local and regional workforce strategies.
Participate in team meetings and other meetings as required related to integration and delivery of contextualized learning as it relates to local and regional workforce development strategies.
Must be able to pass background check and drug screen.
Possession of valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Incumbent operates within general instructions, guidelines, and rules, exercising discretion in selecting the appropriate ones to ensure successful completion of assigned tasks. Incumbent performs a broad range of regular duties which involve consideration of several variables.
III. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent is responsible for proper completion of assigned tasks, with desired results clearly specified. Incumbent exercises independent judgment in a variety of situations and circumstances, using departmental policies for guidance. Unusual situations or problems with irate clients are discussed with the supervisor. Frequently, decisions are made which are restricted only by organization-wide policies. Work is reviewed primarily for attainment of objectives, adherence to instructions/guidelines, and technical accuracy.
IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, other community organizations, social service agencies, educational institutions, various employers, training providers, clients, and the public, for purposes of exchanging/information and rendering service and instruction.
Incumbent reports directly to the Regional Program Manager.
