Full Job Description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. The 3.1 Residential SUD Counselor is responsible for providing clinical services within a low-intensity residential treatment setting for adult males with substance use disorders. This role includes facilitating group therapy, maintaining an active caseload, and ensuring all services are delivered in compliance with Maryland COMAR regulations and ASAM criteria. The counselor will play a key role in supporting client recovery through structured programming, documentation, and individualized treatment planning. This is an afternoon/evening position would be from 1:00PM - 9:00PM with flexibility.

Responsibilities

Facilitate daily group therapy sessions (Monday–Friday) in alignment with evidence-based practices and program curriculum
Maintain and manage an assigned caseload of clients, including:
Conducting biopsychosocial assessments
Developing individualized treatment plans
Providing individual counseling sessions
Monitoring client progress and updating documentation as required
Ensure all clinical services and documentation meet Maryland COMAR regulatory standards and agency policies
Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation, including:
Progress notes
Treatment plans and updates
Discharge summaries
Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care and support client outcomes
Provide crisis intervention and support as needed within the residential setting
Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards of practice
Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training as required
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine individual treatment needs.
Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based techniques.
Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention.
Implement crisis intervention strategies and manage emergency situations with professionalism and sensitivity.
Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans, case management efforts, and community resources for clients.
Stay current with research developments in addiction medicine, behavioral health, and trauma-informed care such as PTSD treatment.

Requirements

Must hold board-recognized counselor credentials approved by the State of Maryland (e.g., ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LCADC, LMSW, LCSW-C, etc.)
Experience working with substance use disorder populations, preferably in a residential setting
Knowledge of ASAM criteria and COMAR regulations
Strong group facilitation and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple clients and maintain organized documentation
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems preferred
Proficiency in crisis management techniques and crisis intervention protocols.
Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as diagnostic evaluation methods for mental health disorders and substance use issues.
Excellent communication skills to engage clients effectively during intake sessions and ongoing therapy.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple cases efficiently.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
