Job Description

Kaempf & Harris Sheet Metal is looking for a Sheet Metal Shop Layout Technician. The Layout Technician lays out, measures, marks, and prepares HVAC sheet metal components for fabrication and assembly. They translate sketches and technical drawings into accurate physical layouts, ensuring parts meet specifications and production standards.

Key Responsibilities

Read sketches, diagrams, and technical drawings to determine layout specifications.
Measure and mark dimensions on sheet metal for cutting, bending, and assembly.
Cut, shape, and form HVAC sheet metal components using shears, brakes, drills, and other shop equipment.
Ensure all layouts meet project specifications and quality standards through precise measurement and inspection.
Create custom HVAC sheet metal fabrication including HVAC duct layout, hoods, caps and other specialty items.
Work with fabricators and shop supervisors to optimize designs and workflow.
Safely operate fabrication tools and machinery, maintaining equipment as needed.
Assist in other shop processes, minimizing waste, and supporting efficient production.

Skills & Competencies

Blueprint Reading and technical drawing interpretation.
Precision Measurement using micrometers, indicators, and layout tools.
HVAC Sheet Metal Fabrication Knowledge including cutting, bending, forming, and assembly.
Safety Awareness and adherence to OSHA and shop safety standards.
Tool Proficiency with shears, brakes, drills, grinders, and layout tools.

Qualifications

High school diploma or technical training in metal fabrication.
Apprenticeship or equivalent hands‑on experience in sheet metal layout or fabrication.
Strong understanding of metal properties and fabrication processes.
Must be comfortable standing and lifting heavy items (50+ lbs)

Work Environment

Shop‑based, hands‑on fabrication environment.
Frequent use of machinery, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
Collaboration with supervisors and fabrication teams.
