Full Job Description

About the Role

As a Marine Structural Fabricator, you will play a vital role in the construction and repair of complex vessel structures, ensuring the integrity of hulls, superstructures, and engine rooms. You will utilize your expertise in metal fabrication and blueprint interpretation to transform raw materials into high-performance marine components.

Responsibilities

Execute the layout, cutting, and forming of structural steel and aluminum to build precise marine vessel components.
Operate heavy fabrication machinery, including press brakes, rollers, shears, and band saws, to meet strict engineering tolerances.
Perform structural fit-up and minor welding tasks using MiG and Arc processes to ensure assembly accuracy.
Construct and utilize modular jigs to facilitate the efficient assembly of superstructures and pilot houses.
Interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints to guide the fabrication and final erection process.
Utilize precision measurement tools, including levels and tape measures, to maintain structural alignment.
Collaborate with the production team to solve complex assembly challenges and mentor junior staff in trade best practices.
Maintain a rigorous commitment to shipyard safety standards, including confined space entry and working at elevated heights.

Qualifications

Required Skills

3+ years of experience in marine metal fabrication or heavy industrial structural fitting.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints and engineering schematics.
Demonstrated ability to operate oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and metal forming equipment.
Strong foundational welding skills, including MiG and Arc processes.
Physical capability to lift 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and operate at heights.
High school diploma or vocational certification in metalworking.

Preferred Skills

Advanced expertise in aluminum and steel fabrication techniques.
Current certification as a Shipyard Competent Person.
Experience operating heavy machinery such as forklifts or manlifts.
Cross-functional knowledge in pipefitting or marine carpentry.
Aptitude for leadership and interest in overseeing crew assembly projects.
