Salary Range for each position level:
Transportation Maintenance Tech I A16, $40,918 - $61,130
Transportation Maintenance Tech II A17, $42,976 - $64,469
Transportation Maintenance Tech III A18, $45,521 - $71,055

Position Description
General Description - Transportation Maintenance Tech I:
Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or material and process inspections; roadways maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees as this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
General Description - Transportation Maintenance Tech III:
Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or material and process inspections; roadways maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees as this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities.
Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.
Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.
Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yard or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.
Sands or cleans bridges and roads, posts warning signs, helps the public and performs other work as directed during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, and hazardous material spills.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Assists with traffic control places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites assists stranded motorists as required.
Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yard or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
Moves/picks up litter and roadway debris.
Mows right of way; performs plan and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.
Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.
Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
Identifies, analyze and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.
Provides support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; and provides assistance to stranded motorists.
Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.

Minimum Qualifications:
No education required.
TMT I = No experience required
TMT II = 1 year experience*
TMT III = 2 years experience*
- Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
