We have recently purchased the hotel and are seeking an experienced, hands-on hotel operations leader with a proven track record of improving day-to-day hotel operations, strengthening work culture, coaching department managers and supervisors, driving accountability and consistent execution across multiple hotel departments.
The ideal candidate understands hotel operations in detail and is comfortable being on the floor, inspecting conditions, identifying problems, coaching employees and department managers, establishing corrective actions, and following through until issues are resolved.

Compensation:
Base Salary: $80,000–$100,000 + performance-based bonus
Sign-on bonus may also be available for the right candidate.

About the Opportunity
Hyatt Place Newark / Silicon Valley is a modern, upscale select-service hotel featuring 112 guest rooms, a bar, indoor pool, fitness center, and approximately 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The Director of Hotel Operations will report to the ownership team and work directly with department managers and supervisors to drive consistent day-to-day operational execution across Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering & Maintenance, Breakfast/F&B, and other hotel operating areas.
This is not primarily a desk-based position.
The successful candidate will maintain a highly visible presence throughout the property—inspecting operations, checking rooms and public areas, coaching department leaders, identifying deficiencies, solving problems, establishing corrective actions, and following up to verify completion.
The Director of Operations will play a critical role in turning hotel standards and management expectations into consistent daily execution.
Key Responsibilities: Daily Operational Leadership
· Oversee day-to-day operations across Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering & Maintenance, Breakfast/F&B, and other operating departments.
· Maintain a highly visible, hands-on presence throughout the hotel.
· Regularly inspect guest rooms, public areas, housekeeping, maintenance, breakfast, and Front Office operations.
· Identify deficiencies, establish corrective actions and deadlines with department leaders, and follow up to verify completion.
· Ensure procedures, checklists, brand standards, and operating expectations are consistently followed.
· Identify recurring problems, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions.
Inspections & Quality Control
· Inspect guest rooms and hotel areas for cleanliness, maintenance, presentation, service, and readiness.
· Verify that department managers complete required inspections, checklists, training, and follow-up.
· Monitor room readiness and resolve issues affecting room availability.
· Maintain Hyatt brand standards and quality-assurance expectations throughout hotel operations.
Department Manager Coaching & Accountability
· Inspect, direct, coach, train, follow up, and hold department leaders accountable for consistent execution of operational standards.
· Work directly with managers and supervisors to improve productivity, quality, organization, and follow-through.
· Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, and deadlines and verify results.
· Coach managers in addressing employee performance and operational deficiencies.
· Reinforce the culture, leadership expectations, and accountability standards established by the General Manager.
Housekeeping & Room Operations
· Work with Housekeeping leadership to maintain high cleanliness standards and consistent room inspections.
· Monitor room readiness, housekeeping productivity, staffing, and recurring cleanliness issues.
· Ensure deficiencies identified through inspections or guest feedback are corrected.
· Improve coordination among Housekeeping, Front Office, and Engineering to maximize room availability and guest satisfaction.
Engineering & Maintenance
· Monitor preventive maintenance, work orders, out-of-order conditions, and guest-impacting maintenance issues.
· Inspect rooms and public areas for maintenance deficiencies and verify completion of outstanding work.
· Identify recurring equipment or building issues requiring longer-term solutions.
Front Office & Guest Experience
· Monitor Front Office service standards, guest interactions, and operating procedures.
· Review guest feedback and service-recovery cases to identify recurring issues.
· Coach the team when service deficiencies are identified and ensure guest concerns are resolved.
Breakfast & F&B Operations
· Monitor breakfast and F&B operations for quality, presentation, cleanliness, staffing, and service.
· Work with F&B leadership to ensure standards are followed and recurring issues are corrected.
Productivity, Labor & Cost Control
· Monitor scheduling, staffing, productivity, overtime, labor efficiency, supplies, and departmental expenses.
· Work with department managers and the General Manager to improve efficiency while maintaining guest experience and quality.
Communication & Follow-Through
· Maintain strong communication across hotel departments and regularly follow up on open operational items.
· Escalate significant operational, staffing, guest, or maintenance issues to the General Manager.
· Establish systems to ensure important tasks and operational issues are tracked through completion.
Qualifications
· 7+ years of progressive hotel operations experience, including management or supervisory responsibility, strongly preferred.
· Previous experience as an Assistant General Manager, Director of Operations, Operations Manager, Rooms Division Manager, Front Office Manager, Executive Housekeeper, or comparable hotel leadership role.
· Strong hands-on knowledge of Housekeeping, Front Office, Maintenance/Engineering, and guest services.
· Demonstrated ability to identify operational deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and follow through to completion.
· Proven ability to coach, train, motivate, and hold managers and employees accountable.
· Demonstrated success improving operations, guest satisfaction, cleanliness, quality scores, and/or labor productivity.
· Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hotel operational needs.
Preferred Qualifications
· Hyatt experience is highly desirable but not required.
· Experience with Opera PMS, Hyatt Connect, and other Hyatt systems is highly desirable.
· Experience successfully improving operational standards, cleanliness, guest satisfaction, or quality scores.
