Title: Housekeeping Manager
Reports to: Property Manager
FLSA Status: FT Non-Exempt
This position supports the work of the Fremont Family YMCA (FFY), a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Housekeeping Manager maintains a clean, safe, welcoming and healthy environment for members, guests, staff and volunteers by performing hands-on cleaning throughout the facility while coordinating the housekeeping team and supply ordering. The Housekeeping Manager trains new staff, sets the standard for quality and safety.
Hands-On Cleaning and Facility Standards (70%)
- Perform regular daily cleaning duties alongside the housekeeping team, including restrooms, locker rooms, wellness areas, gymnasiums, aquatic areas, offices, meeting rooms and common spaces.
- Address assigned and unassigned routine cleaning tasks as practical, including outdoor litter pick-up, entryway cleaning and trash removal, snow removal and ice prevention in addition to contracted services, and other unforeseen issues as they arise.
- Handle non-routine cleaning tasks, both scheduled and unscheduled, and respond to emergency clean-ups such as spills, restroom incidents and ongoing trash disposal during events.
- Provide coverage for absent housekeeping staff as needed to maintain cleanliness standards.
- Follow all cleaning checklists and safety data sheet (SDS) requirements for chemical handling and storage, and properly use and maintain housekeeping equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Responsible for Camp Lodge housekeeping as needed with lodge usage, including supplemental housekeeping, routine cleaning and supplies organization.
Team Coordination, Supplies and Scheduling (30%)
- Coordinate and assign daily housekeeping team tasks; verify completion and quality of assigned work.
- Build and publish the monthly housekeeping schedule, adjusting for time-off requests, callouts, events and seasonal needs with Property Manager approval.
- Maintain inventory and order housekeeping supplies within the approved budget; keep supply areas organized, stocked and secure.
- Assign, track and verify housekeeping checklists and tasks; maintain daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal cleaning checklists; and report facility issues that require repair.
- Create, maintain and modify cleaning checklists for all areas as facility and program needs change.
- Monitor the condition of housekeeping equipment and report needed maintenance and repairs to the Property Manager.
- Coordinate with the Property Manager on cleaning projects, including deep cleans, floor refinishing, carpet care and other projects as assigned.
- Communicate schedule changes, project expectations and priorities clearly to the housekeeping team.
- Train all new housekeeping staff in cleaning procedures.
- Provide ongoing coaching and retraining to ensure consistent quality standards.
- Inspect completed work and provide direct, timely feedback to staff.
- Hold housekeeping staff accountable for job expectations, attendance and conduct according to YMCA standards.
- Enforce housekeeping and YMCA staff policies, including time-off requests, no call/no show procedures and sick day reporting, escalating issues to the Property Manager and or COO as needed.
- Model YMCA character values and a positive, member-focused attitude always.
- Participate in the hiring of housekeeping staff in conjunction with the Property Manager and COO, including reviewing applications and resumes, conducting and sitting in on interviews, and making hiring recommendations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with building setup, teardown and support for YMCA programs, meetings, community events and special activities.
- Participate in staff and departmental meetings as assigned and attend relevant training and workshops.
- Understand and uphold the mission, objectives, rules, regulations and policies of the Fremont Family YMCA.
- Work cooperatively with all YMCA departments to support the productive, effective and efficient operation of the FFY.
- Assist YMCA members and visitors as needed to provide excellent customer service, and maintain member, guest and staff confidentiality.
- Complete additional duties as required and assigned by Property Manager and or COO.

Working Schedule: This position is primarily daytime hours and requires flexibility of schedule to include morning, afternoon, evening, weekend and occasional holiday availability, along with occasional call-in support for urgent cleaning needs, based on the operational needs and programs of the Fremont Family YMCA.
Position Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping, custodial or facility cleaning experience required; lead, supervisory or crew coordination experience preferred.
- Comfortable using a smartphone, tablet or computer for checklists, scheduling, ordering and task tracking.
- Basic inventory management and supply cost awareness.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb stairs and step ladders, push, pull and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull cleaning equipment.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain and maintain within the timeframe established by the YMCA.
