Job Overview
The United We Lead Foundation (UWLF) is seeking energetic, dependable, flexible, and student-centered Substitute After School Enrichment Instructors to support our Future Ready Explorers program and other UWLF educational initiatives.
This position will primarily provide substitute coverage for After School Enrichment Instructors at Fresno Unified School District sites when regularly assigned staff are absent or additional program support is needed.
Because substitute needs may vary from week to week, individuals in this position may also be offered opportunities to work additional hours supporting UWLF operations and programs. This may include working at the UWLF office, shadowing and assisting other After School Enrichment Instructors, preparing instructional materials, participating in training and professional development, or providing substitute support for other UWLF in-person or virtual programs.
UWLF operates programs at different times throughout the week. Candidates should have flexibility to accept assignments during afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends, depending on program needs.
Hours are based on organizational and program needs and are not guaranteed.
Primary Responsibilities
● Provide substitute coverage for After School Enrichment Instructors at assigned Fresno Unified School District sites.
● Facilitate engaging enrichment lessons and activities using UWLF-provided curriculum and instructional materials.
● Maintain continuity of programming and follow lesson plans established by UWLF.
● Facilitate project-based learning activities focused on college and career awareness, leadership, teamwork, communication, goal setting, financial literacy, and other enrichment topics.

● Monitor student behavior and follow all UWLF and school district safety procedures and expectations.
● Maintain attendance, student participation records, surveys, and other required program documentation.
● Communicate effectively with UWLF supervisors, site administrators, Expanded Learning Coordinators, and other instructional staff.
● Arrive prepared and on time for all accepted substitute assignments.
● Participate in required training, professional development, staff meetings, and instructional coaching.
Additional UWLF Assignments
When substitute coverage is not needed, the employee may be offered additional work based on organizational needs and availability, including:
● Working at the UWLF office to support program preparation, organization, administrative projects, and other assigned duties.
● Preparing, organizing, and assembling curriculum, instructional materials, supplies, and program resources.
● Shadowing experienced After School Enrichment Instructors for additional training and professional development.
● Assisting instructors at school sites when additional classroom or program support is needed.
● Providing substitute coverage for other UWLF educational, student, parent, or community programs.
● Supporting in-person and virtual UWLF programming.
● Assisting with evening workshops, parent programs, student programs, community events, trainings, and special projects.
● Supporting occasional weekend programs and events.
● Completing other duties as assigned in support of UWLF's programs and mission.
Assignment locations, schedules, and responsibilities may vary depending on organizational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
● High School Diploma or equivalent required.
● Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Liberal Studies, Child Development, Human Services, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field preferred.
● Experience working with youth in educational, after-school, tutoring, mentoring, recreation, or camp settings preferred.
● Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to quickly adapt to different classrooms, age groups, instructors, programs, and learning environments.
● Ability to follow established lesson plans and program procedures with limited advance notice.
● Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff and UWLF leadership.
● Ability to build positive relationships with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
● Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
● Experience facilitating project-based learning or enrichment programming is a plus.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms preferred.
Flexibility & Availability
Successful candidates must understand that this is a flexible substitute position and weekly hours may fluctuate depending on staff absences, program schedules, and UWLF organizational needs.
Candidates should be willing and available to:
● Accept substitute assignments as needs arise.
● Work at different Fresno-area school and program sites.
● Work at the UWLF office when additional support opportunities are available.
● Shadow or assist other instructors as part of ongoing training.
● Support both in-person and virtual programming.
● Work afternoon and after-school hours.
● Work occasional evenings and weekends.
● Adjust assignments based on changing program and staffing needs.
Advance notice will be provided whenever possible; however, some substitute assignments may become available on short notice.
Physical Requirements
This position may require working on school campuses, in office environments, and at community program locations. The employee must be able to:
● Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout classrooms and activity areas.
● Actively supervise and engage with students.
● Lift and carry instructional materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
● Operate computers, projectors, and classroom technology.
● Participate in indoor and outdoor activities as required by the assignment.

Licenses & Requirements
● Valid California Driver's License preferred.
● Reliable transportation to assigned program locations.
● Successful completion of DOJ/FBI Live Scan background clearance.
● TB clearance prior to employment.
● Ability to meet applicable school district and UWLF contractor requirements.
● Reliable attendance and punctuality for all accepted assignments.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time, substitute/on-call position. Hours will vary based on staff absences, program schedules, and organizational needs.
After-school substitute assignments may generally fall within:
● Monday–Friday
● Approximately 1:45 PM–6:00 PM on regular school days
● Approximately 12:15 PM–6:00 PM on early-release days
Additional UWLF assignments may occur during regular business hours, afternoons, evenings, or weekends and may be conducted in person or virtually.
Employees may accept additional available assignments based on their availability and UWLF's needs. A specific number of weekly hours is not guaranteed.

This position is contingent upon continued program funding, applicable district approvals, available assignments, and organizational needs.
