Full Job Description

A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of infrastructure projects throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth market. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and owners to help coordinate project activities, manage documentation, monitor costs, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy civil construction and possess strong organizational, technical, and communication skills. This position offers a clear path for advancement into project management within a growing infrastructure construction organization.

Key Responsibilities

Assist Project Managers and field teams with the execution of heavy civil construction projects.
Manage and track project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and daily reports.
Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure project compliance.
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, inspectors, and clients to support project milestones.
Monitor project schedules and assist in maintaining progress against established timelines.
Perform quantity tracking, cost analysis, and productivity reporting.
Support procurement efforts and coordinate material deliveries to project sites.
Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives.
Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate records of discussions and action items.
Help identify and resolve field-related issues impacting project performance.
Ensure compliance with company safety standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
Support project closeout activities, including punch-list completion and final documentation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
1–5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, project engineering, field engineering, or project management support.
Experience with roadway, highway, bridge, utilities, earthwork, grading, paving, concrete, or infrastructure projects preferred.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Experience with HCSS, Procore, Primavera P6, Viewpoint, Bluebeam, or similar construction software is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Experience

Experience supporting DOT, municipal, site development, transportation, or public infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with project scheduling, quantity tracking, contract administration, and cost reporting.
Knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods.
Experience working on self-perform construction projects.
