Full Job Description

WHO WE ARE

Slices Concession is North America's largest seller of refurbished ice cream and frozen drink equipment. We buy machines, bring them back to life, and get them into the hands of customers across the country. Our shop in Gainesville, FL is where the real work happens — and the quality of our technicians is what makes our product worth selling.

We're a small, hard-working team that moves fast and takes pride in doing things right. If you're the kind of tech who can look at a machine and just know what's wrong with it — and then actually fix it — you'll fit right in.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a shop-based role. You won't be driving to customer sites — you'll be working hands-on in our facility, diagnosing and repairing commercial ice cream and frozen beverage machines day in and day out. The variety is real: soft serve, batch freezers, slushie machines, shake machines, and more.

We're looking for someone with 2–5 years of experience in refrigeration and restaurant appliance repair who can hit the ground running. You should be comfortable working independently, diagnosing unfamiliar machines, and knowing when to dig deeper versus when a machine isn't worth the time.

This isn't a call-center tech role with a script. It's real, hands-on repair work — and you'll have the satisfaction of seeing every machine you touch go out the door in better shape than it came in.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Diagnose & Repair

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues across a wide variety of commercial frozen dessert and beverage machines
Perform hands-on repairs including compressor work, refrigerant handling, electrical troubleshooting, motor replacement, and control board diagnosis
Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble machines to identify wear, damage, or failing components
Work through unfamiliar makes and models using schematics, service manuals, and your own experience to find solutions
Determine repair feasibility — knowing when a machine is worth repairing and when it isn't is just as valuable as the repair itself

Quality & Standards

Ensure every machine leaving your bench meets Slices quality standards — fully functional, clean, and ready for resale or customer use
Conduct final operational testing on repaired machines before sign-off
Identify and flag recurring failure patterns or common issues across machine types to improve our refurbishment process
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times

Documentation & Collaboration

Document all diagnoses, parts used, and repair actions accurately in our system for every machine you touch
Communicate clearly with the Inventory & Procurement Specialist to flag parts needs and ensure components are available when you need them
Coordinate with the warehouse team on machine intake, staging, and output flow
Flag patterns in parts failures or shortages that could inform smarter purchasing decisions

NON-NEGOTIABLES

Know Your Craft — You have real refrigeration and appliance repair experience. You're not learning the basics here — you're applying them.
Own the Quality — Your name is on every machine you touch. You don't cut corners and you don't pass problems downstream.
Figure It Out — You'll encounter machines you've never seen before. That doesn't slow you down — it's part of what makes the job interesting.
Work Clean — An organized bench is a fast bench. You take care of your tools, your space, and the machines in your care.
Communicate — When you're waiting on a part, behind on a machine, or found something unexpected — you say so. No surprises.
Stay Certified — You hold or are actively working toward EPA 608 certification. Refrigerant handling is non-negotiable in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required

2–5 years of hands-on experience in refrigeration repair, restaurant appliance repair, or a closely related field
EPA 608 Certification (or ability to obtain prior to start)
Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing refrigeration systems — compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigerant circuits
Experience troubleshooting electrical systems including wiring, control boards, motors, and sensors
Comfortable working independently on unfamiliar equipment using schematics and service documentation
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy commercial equipment (up to 75 lbs)
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Bonus Points

Direct experience with commercial frozen dessert or beverage equipment (Taylor, Carpigiani, Stoelting, Spaceman, Bunn, etc.)
HVAC/R or appliance repair trade certification or vocational training
Experience in a production or refurbishment environment where throughput and quality both matter
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, refrigeration schematics, and technical service manuals

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay Range: $22 – $30 per hour, based on experience and certifications
Pay Frequency: Weekly
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Performance Bonuses: Discretionary quarterly performance bonuses
Paid Time Off: 1 Week accrued at 1 year (40 hours) then weekly at a rate of 40 hours per year. Balance paid upon leaving job.
Sick days: 3 per year non-accrual.
