Performs and evaluates overnight polysomnograms. Operates medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. Applies recording devices to patient, cleans/sterilizes equipment and monitors polysomnograms. Recognizes sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and responds with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.
What you will do in this role:

Review existing information in patient record.
-
Examines orders and protocols for study.
-
Recognizes chief sleep/wake complaint.
-
Interview patients to assess current medications, recent caffeine or alcohol ingestion, current sleep pattern, and need for treatment intervention during testing.
-
Communicate with the ordering physician to clarify unclear and/or inappropriate orders or to communicate information about the patient’s condition.
-
Set up and calibrate monitoring equipment based on manufacturer’s recommendations or lab protocols.
-
Measure and appropriately apply electrodes.
-
Place and secure recording transducers to measure airflow, respiratory effort, and oximetry.
-
Perform physiologic calculations.
-
Institute “light out’ and note patient data.
-
Monitor the polysomnograms per procedure.
-
Recognize and record physiological events.
-
Note and correct equipment malfunction.
-
Alter patient environment to obtain the required data.
-
Monitor and change patient body position as required to obtain the necessary data.

Carefully awaken patient and record post-sleep information
-
Remove electrodes and assist patient with hygiene as necessary.

Score polysomnogram and generate a report summarizing sleep/wake periods, REM episodes, arousal analysis, EEG phenomena, cardiac events, respiratory events, limb movements, and other physiological events according to current guidelines.

Recognize and respond appropriately to patient’s medical problems and physiological events.

Understand indications, contraindications, and adverse affects of nasal CPAP, and oxygen administration.

Apply and titrate therapy based physician orders and established protocols.

Educate and arrange for home CPAP for patients.

Conduct multiple sleep latency tests and score using lab protocols.

Performs other related functions as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

(RPSGT) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, or (RST) Registered Sleep Technologist

Prior work experience and/or training related to Sleep/EEG/Respiratory/Pharmacy/Nursing/EMT or other allied health field
