Sacramento recording artist SJM is looking for a motivated, creative and highly organized person interested in building a career in music, broadcasting, media, entertainment or artist management.
This is specifically an opportunity for someone who may be finishing college, recently graduated or early in their career and wants hands-on experience helping develop and manage an independent artist brand.
Extensive music-industry experience is not required.
I’m looking for someone hungry, dependable and willing to learn.
WHAT YOU’LL HELP WITH
- Coordinating music releases and promotional campaigns Reaching out to podcasts, radio stations, blogs and media outlets Finding interview and publicity opportunities Helping coordinate music videos, photographers and content shoots Assisting with social-media strategy and content planning Maintaining press materials and SJM’s electronic press kit Communicating with artists, producers, venues and collaborators Researching performance and promotional opportunities Helping organize schedules, meetings and appearances Attending selected studio sessions, video shoots and events Developing relationships within the Sacramento and broader music/media community Learning the business side of independent artist management

You don’t need an impressive résumé.
I’d rather find someone who is ambitious, resourceful and willing to make things happen than someone with years of industry experience who is already managing ten other artists.
You should be comfortable sending professional emails, talking to people, researching opportunities, using social media and representing an artist professionally.
Being comfortable around cameras, music-video production or creating short-form content is a major plus.

This isn’t about simply being an assistant.
The goal is to find someone who can start by helping coordinate SJM’s media and artist-development efforts and potentially grow into a larger artist-management role as the brand grows.
You’ll get real-world experience working directly on music releases, video productions, media outreach, artist branding and entertainment business development.

Responsibilities
- Coordinate artist schedules, engagements, and media appearances to optimize visibility and engagement.
- Manage media content workflows, including planning, editing, and delivery across multiple platforms using tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects).
- Collaborate with artists and clients to develop compelling visual designs, promotional materials, and presentation assets that align with branding goals.
- Oversee the production of multimedia content such as motion graphics, videos (using Premiere or After Effects), and digital designs for various media outlets.
- Facilitate communication between artists, media outlets, marketing teams, and external vendors to ensure project deadlines are met efficiently.
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of AV systems for live events or recordings, including rigging and technical support.
- Support fabrication or conservation framing projects when necessary to ensure artwork presentation meets museum or gallery standards.
Requirements
- Proven experience in digital design, art direction, or media coordination within a professional art or entertainment environment.
- Strong proficiency with graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects; familiarity with Figma is a plus.
- Knowledge of color theory, typography design for media, layout design, and visual design principles.
- Technical skills in video editing (Premiere), motion graphics (After Effects), 3D animation (Maya), and web design are highly desirable.
- Ability to operate power tools and hand tools for fabrication or installation tasks; experience with carpentry or interior design is advantageous.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with museum standards for conservation framing and AV system installation enhances your candidacy.
- Experience with SketchUp, CAD software, photography techniques, marketing strategies, or post-production processes will set you apart.
