Telehealth Low Vision Optometrist
Employment Type: Part-Time, Contract/Per Diem
Schedule: Twice weekly (2 days/week), virtual via Tebra EHR platform
Location: Remote (telehealth via secure portal)
Position Summary
Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired seeks a licensed Optometrist (OD) to provide specialized low vision telehealth evaluations and treatment planning for blind and visually impaired clients. Working virtually twice weekly through our Tebra EHR platform, you will conduct comprehensive 90-minute low vision evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, recommend assistive devices and visual aids, and coordinate referrals to complementary services including assistive technology, activities of daily living training, orientation and mobility instruction, and peer support groups.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive low vision evaluations via telehealth (90-minute sessions) for patients referred by ophthalmologists and optometrists
- Develop individualized low vision treatment plans focused on maximizing functional vision and quality of life
- Evaluate and recommend specialized visual aids, optical devices, electronic aids, and adaptive equipment to improve visual function
- Document clinical findings, assessments, and recommendations in Tebra EHR in a timely and compliant manner
- Coordinate and refer clients to appropriate Vista Center services: assistive technology (AT), activities of daily living (ADL) training, orientation and mobility (O&M) training, and peer support groups
- Collaborate with Vista Center's Clinic Manager and clinical team during telehealth sessions; provide direction for in-person support and patient preparation as needed
- Provide clear, patient-centered communication about low vision conditions, treatment options, and expected outcomes
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and adherence to all regulatory and organizational standards
- Participate in clinical coordination meetings and case discussions as requested
- Stay current with low vision rehabilitation best practices and telehealth protocols
Required Qualifications
- Valid California (or other state) optometry license
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in low vision rehabilitation, preferably in a nonprofit or community health setting
- Experience with telehealth evaluations and/or virtual patient care delivery
- Proficiency with EHR systems (familiarity with Tebra or similar platforms preferred)
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in low vision conditions
- Knowledge of optical and electronic visual aids, magnification devices, and adaptive technologies
- Ability to work independently in a virtual environment with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with organizations serving blind and visually impaired populations
- Familiarity with Tebra EHR platform
- Experience with interdisciplinary care coordination and service referral processes

Work Environment
This is a remote telehealth position. The optometrist will conduct all patient evaluations virtually via Tebra EHR from a private, HIPAA-compliant location with reliable internet connectivity. Twice weekly, the optometrist will work in coordination with Vista Center's on-site Clinic Manager and clinical staff who will support with any in-person needs during the telehealth evaluation.

Pay: $50.00 - $65.00 per hour
