Full Job Description

Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment where financial leadership, strategic planning, and operational excellence intersect? A growing local Commercial Cleaning Company is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our growing firm.

The Controller serves as the financial leader within the company and is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, payroll administration, compliance, and internal controls. This position partners closely with leadership to provide financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and ensure the organization's financial health and long-term growth.

Essential Functions for this role include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Reporting

Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Analyze financial performance, profitability, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs), providing recommendations to leadership.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
Develop and maintain financial reporting systems that support informed business decisions.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning

Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial forecasting activities.
Develop cash flow projections and monitor working capital to ensure financial stability.
Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to ownership and leadership.
Support growth initiatives, business planning, pricing analysis, and profitability improvement efforts.
Evaluate financial risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.

Accounting Operations & Internal Controls

Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Oversee accounts receivable collections and accounts payable processes to maximize cash flow and operational efficiency.
Ensure proper coding and allocation of revenue and expenses by customer, department, project, or job.
Review account reconciliations and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and strengthen financial processes.

Compliance, Payroll & Risk Management

Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Coordinate annual tax preparation activities with external accounting partners.
Manage insurance audits, workers' compensation audits, and other regulatory requirements.
Maintain company registrations, licenses, and compliance filings.
Support risk management initiatives and ensure adequate financial safeguards are in place.

Leadership & Team Development

Provide leadership and guidance for administrative and accounting functions.
Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership and leadership on financial matters.
Collaborate across departments to improve operational and financial performance.
Lead financial system enhancements, software implementations, and process improvement projects.
Perform other duties as needed to support company growth and success.

Successful candidates will have:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
CPA designation preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10+ years of accounting and finance experience.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or other financial leadership role.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations and month-end/year-end close processes.
Experience leading budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities.
Hands-on, proficient experience with QuickBooks Online.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.
Professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and ability to work independently.
