Full Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Take your sign language interpreting skills to the next level in a collaborative K-12 school setting for the upcoming academic year. As a contract interpreter, you’ll play a vital role supporting students' access to communication and learning starting August 12, 2026, through May 26, 2027. Located near Gastonia, NC, this role offers consistent, school-based hours and the chance to foster meaningful connections with students and educators alike.

Qualifications:

EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (required)
Appropriate certification/credentials to interpret in educational settings
Experience or strong interest in working with children and adolescents
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and a team-based approach

Your Responsibilities:

Provide sign language interpreting services for students (K-12) in various educational scenarios including classroom instruction, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
Adapt interpreting strategies to support diverse learning needs and communication styles
Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to facilitate full participation and inclusion
Support the educational, social, and emotional growth of students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
Maintain accurate records and uphold compliance with school and district policies

As part of this dynamic environment, you’ll enjoy a pay rate of $28 per hour for 35 hours per week over a standard five-day schedule.
