Technical Program Manager – Embedded Avionics/Aerospace

Location: Shelby, NC
Job Type: Full-Time Contract, 6–12+ Months
Pay: $75–$90 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Onsite
Overtime: Straight time
Interview Process: One or two Microsoft Teams interviews
Eligibility: U.S. citizens only due to ITAR requirements

Position Overview

We are urgently seeking a highly experienced Technical Program Manager to support the recovery of a critical Airbus-related aerospace program involving advanced brushless motor-control systems.

This program is currently behind schedule and requires a hands-on technical leader who can quickly assess complex issues, establish priorities, coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and drive deliverables back on track.

The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical, embedded hardware, software or avionics background. Candidates whose experience is primarily mechanical engineering will not be as strongly aligned.

Airbus experience is highly desirable. Hands-on experience with DO-178 and DO-254 is strongly preferred and will be a major factor in candidate selection.

Key Responsibilities

Lead technical recovery efforts for an aerospace program operating behind schedule
Establish priorities, corrective-action plans and realistic execution schedules
Coordinate embedded software, electronic hardware, systems integration, verification and certification teams
Support the development, integration, testing and certification of brushless motor-control systems
Rapidly evaluate complex technical issues and identify root causes, risks and corrective actions
Review designs, requirements, verification activities and certification artifacts for gaps
Track program schedules, risks, deliverables and technical dependencies
Facilitate technical reviews and issue-resolution meetings
Communicate program status, technical risks and recovery plans to leadership and customer stakeholders
Coordinate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure hardware, software and certification activities remain aligned
Help bring delayed program deliverables back on schedule

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline
Eight or more years of aerospace, avionics, embedded systems or safety-critical systems experience
Program-management, technical-program-management or senior engineering leadership experience
Strong understanding of embedded software, electronic hardware and systems integration
Experience leading complex aerospace programs involving certification requirements
Demonstrated experience recovering delayed programs or resolving high-priority technical and schedule issues
Ability to troubleshoot and coordinate work across multiple engineering disciplines
Strong customer-facing communication and leadership skills
Ability and willingness to work onsite in Shelby, NC
U.S. citizenship required due to ITAR regulations

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

DO-178 experience involving airborne software development, verification or certification
DO-254 experience involving airborne electronic hardware development, verification or certification
Airbus program or direct Airbus customer experience
Brushless motor-control, motor-drive or power-electronics experience
Experience with electromechanical actuators or aerospace control systems
Knowledge of airborne hardware and software validation and verification
Experience reviewing certification plans, requirements, traceability, test evidence and compliance artifacts
Experience leading technical recovery or “triage” efforts on distressed aerospace programs

The successful candidate will thrive where technical complexity, certification requirements and schedule pressure intersect. This is not a traditional sustaining-engineering assignment. The position requires someone who can enter a challenging program, quickly understand the hardware and software issues, establish priorities and drive teams toward resolution.
