About the Position
We are seeking a Purchasing Specialist to join our team in Gastonia, NC.
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for managing and coordinating indirect procurement activities, supplier relationships, purchasing processes, and assigned improvement projects. This position supports METYX USA’s operational and financial objectives by identifying competitive sourcing opportunities, negotiating favorable terms, managing supplier performance, mitigating supply chain risks, and ensuring compliance with company policies and management system requirements.
The Purchasing Specialist works closely with internal departments, suppliers, and global METYX teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services while continuously improving purchasing processes and supporting operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct domestic and international supplier and market analysis across assigned indirect categories and identify alternative suppliers, products, and solutions.
- Manage and follow up on competitive bids and tenders for materials and services in accordance with Supply Chain procedures and established criteria.
- Monitor market conditions, pricing trends, supplier capabilities, and industry developments to identify opportunities and maintain a competitive purchasing position.
- Manage indirect procurement activities, including supplier selection, quotation analysis, price and contract negotiations, order fulfillment, and supplier performance monitoring.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks while supporting quality, cost, delivery, and service requirements.
- Work closely with internal departments to understand purchasing requirements and coordinate the procurement process from request through completion.
- Maintain contracts within the assigned area of responsibility and initiate renewals, amendments, or competitive sourcing activities as needed.
- Manage the Supplier Performance Evaluation process and follow up on identified issues or improvement opportunities.
- Analyze existing purchasing processes and systems and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service.
- Maintain purchasing procedures, work instructions, and related documentation in accordance with company Management System requirements.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and other reports related to assigned purchasing categories and activities.
- Perform statistical and data analysis to support purchasing decisions, cost management, supplier evaluation, and process improvement.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of contracts, quotations, supplier documentation, purchase-related records, and other procurement information.
- Participate in projects designed to improve procurement processes, reduce costs, improve supplier performance, and increase operational efficiency.
- Participate in supplier audits as an observer or, when appropriately certified, as an auditor. Coordinate audit activities and reporting with Quality Control and Management Systems personnel.
- Ensure purchasing-related documents and records remain current, accurate, and compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
- Support the company’s Quality Management System and related compliance activities.
- Support activities related to the Environmental Management System.
- Comply with all company Occupational Health and Safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to team members regarding process-based management and risk-based thinking principles.
- Support effective quality management practices and compliance with Quality Management System requirements.
- Contribute to training plans and initiatives designed to improve employee knowledge, skills, and management system effectiveness.
- Support departmental and individual objectives in alignment with company policies, performance indicators, and organizational goals.
- Participate in the continuous evaluation and improvement of management systems, processes, and procedures.
- Conduct risk and opportunity assessments related to purchasing and departmental activities.
- Ensure assigned corrective actions and improvement initiatives are completed on time and properly documented.
- Support ISO 27001 information security practices and awareness activities and comply with applicable information security policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of company, supplier, employee, financial, and purchasing information.
- Represent METYX USA professionally and serve as a positive brand ambassador in interactions with employees, suppliers, customers, and business partners.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Purchasing, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or related business experience required in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with indirect procurement and supplier management preferred.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with ERP systems; experience with Materials Management (MM) modules is a plus.
- Ability to analyze pricing, supplier performance, market conditions, and purchasing data.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with internal departments, suppliers, and international/global teams.
- Demonstrated ability to identify cost-saving opportunities, negotiate favorable pricing and terms, and implement purchasing strategies that reduce costs and improve overall value.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in technical textiles, composites, or a related industry.
- Experience with strategic sourcing, competitive bidding, contract negotiations, and supplier audits.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 27001 management systems.
- Knowledge of supply chain risk management and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with international suppliers and global procurement teams.
