About the Opportunity
MiNorthStays is a growing short-term rental management and ownership company serving Northern Michigan. As our portfolio continues to grow, we are beginning to bring our cleaning operations in-house.
We are looking for the right person to help us build this function from the ground up.
This position will initially be part-time and based on the number of guest turnovers in our portfolio. It is not intended to be a guaranteed 40-hour-per-week position from day one. Instead, we are looking for someone who is comfortable starting smaller and who wants the opportunity to grow with us as we add properties.
For the right person, this can become much more than a cleaning position. As our portfolio grows, there will be opportunities to take on additional responsibility, help train and manage other cleaners, develop processes, and potentially grow into a Cleaning Lead or Cleaning Operations role.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build something—not simply complete a checklist and go home.
What You'll Do
Short-Term Rental Cleaning & Turnovers
Your primary responsibility will be making sure our properties are exceptionally clean, organized, stocked, and guest-ready between stays.
Responsibilities will include:
- Thoroughly clean and reset short-term rental properties between guests
- Clean kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, and common spaces
- Change and prepare linens, towels, and bedding
- Restock guest supplies and household essentials
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, sanitize, and disinfect as needed
- Clean appliances, countertops, cabinets, fixtures, and other surfaces
- Check for fingerprints, cobwebs, dirt, hair, odors, and other details that can negatively affect the guest experience
- Make beds and present the property according to MiNorthStays standards
- Ensure the property is properly staged and photo-ready before each guest arrival
- Follow cleaning checklists and established standards
- Identify and communicate maintenance issues, damage, missing items, or unusual conditions
- Monitor cleaning supplies, linens, and other inventory
- Help maintain organization in owner closets, supply areas, and storage spaces
- Take photos or provide updates when needed to document the condition of a property
- Complete turnovers within the required timeframe based on guest check-in and check-out schedules
Help Build the Cleaning Operation
This is where this position is different from a typical cleaning job.
As we build our in-house cleaning operation, you will have a meaningful opportunity to help determine how we do things.
You may help:
- Develop and improve cleaning checklists
- Establish cleaning standards and quality-control procedures
- Determine the best supplies, equipment, and products to use
- Develop systems for managing linens, towels, and inventory
- Identify ways to make turnovers more efficient
- Create processes that can eventually be taught to other cleaners
- Provide feedback on what is and isn't working
- Help develop training materials and onboarding procedures
- Help establish expectations for future cleaners
- Identify recurring property issues and recommend solutions
- Help create a consistent MiNorthStays cleaning experience across multiple properties
Your ideas and feedback will matter. We want someone who will speak up when they see a better way to do something.
Potential Leadership Opportunity
As MiNorthStays grows, we expect the cleaning operation to grow with it.
For the right person, there may eventually be an opportunity to:
- Train and onboard new cleaners
- Help establish quality standards
- Inspect completed turnovers
- Coordinate coverage and cleaning schedules
- Help manage a team of cleaners
- Assist with expanding cleaning operations into additional Northern Michigan markets
- Take on a Cleaning Lead or Cleaning Operations position
- Have increased responsibility and earning potential as the operation grows
You will not be expected to manage a team immediately. The goal is to build toward that opportunity organically as the business grows and as you demonstrate the ability and desire to take on more responsibility.
What We're Looking For
We are much more interested in finding the right person than simply filling a cleaning position.
The ideal candidate is:
- Extremely detail-oriented
- Reliable and dependable
- Trustworthy and honest
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Proud of the quality of their work
- Comfortable taking initiative without being constantly supervised
- Organized and good at managing time
- Comfortable using checklists and following established standards
- Willing to identify problems rather than ignore them
- Comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback
- Interested in improving processes and finding better ways to work
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally
- Interested in eventually taking on additional responsibility
- Comfortable working in different types of properties and environments
- Willing and able to travel between properties throughout Northern Michigan
Previous professional cleaning, housekeeping, hospitality, hotel, or short-term rental experience is helpful, but the right attitude, work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn are more important.
This May Be a Great Fit If...
You might be a great fit if you are someone who:
Takes ownership.
You don't need someone standing over you to make sure the job gets done correctly.
Notices the little things.
You understand that guests notice when something is dirty, out of place, missing, or poorly prepared.
Likes making things better.
You don't just follow a process—you naturally think, "Is there a better way to do this?"
Wants to grow.
You're comfortable starting part-time but interested in the possibility of taking on more hours, responsibility, and leadership as the business grows.
Enjoys working independently.
You like having responsibility for your work and being trusted to get the job done.
Wants to build something.
You're excited by the idea of joining early and helping create the systems and standards that future team members will follow.
What This Position Is NOT
We want to be upfront about the opportunity.
- This is not initially a guaranteed 40-hour-per-week position.
- The number of hours will depend on our current property portfolio and turnover schedule.
- The position will start smaller and grow as our business grows.
- Someone who needs to make a specific amount of income immediately may not be the right fit.
- We are looking for someone interested in a longer-term opportunity, not simply a temporary cleaning job.
That said, we are serious about investing in the right person. As our portfolio grows, we want our cleaning operation—and the people who help build it—to grow with us.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
