Position Summary
The Program Director is a key member of the Geneva Family YMCA leadership team and is responsible for the development, management, quality, growth and financial performance of the YMCA's programs.
The successful candidate will ensure that programs meet the needs of members and the broader community while contributing to membership growth, participant retention, revenue generation and the overall financial sustainability of the YMCA.
This position requires a hands-on, accountable leader who can develop strong staff, identify opportunities for program growth, establish measurable goals and ensure that programs consistently deliver a high-quality YMCA experience.
Essential Responsibilities
Program Development & Growth
- Develop, implement and evaluate YMCA programs based on community needs, member feedback and organizational priorities.
- Identify opportunities for new programs, expanded offerings and increased participation.
- Establish measurable participation, retention and revenue goals for programs.
- Regularly evaluate programs and make recommendations to improve quality, participation and financial performance.
- Ensure programs are appropriately promoted and effectively communicated to members and the community.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate program staff and volunteers.
- Establish clear expectations and performance standards for program staff.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback and professional development.
- Address performance problems promptly and appropriately.
- Build a positive, professional and accountable team culture.
Financial Management
- Prepare and manage program budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Monitor revenue and expenses and take corrective action when programs are not meeting budget expectations.
- Identify opportunities to increase program revenue while maintaining affordability and accessibility.
- Track registration, participation, payroll and other key financial indicators.
- Provide regular reports to the Executive Director regarding program performance.
Member & Community Engagement
- Maintain a strong presence with members, parents, participants and staff.
- Respond promptly and professionally to questions, concerns and complaints.
- Develop partnerships with schools, community organizations, businesses and other agencies.
- Identify unmet community needs that could become opportunities for YMCA programming.
- Represent the YMCA positively throughout the Geneva community.
Program Quality & Safety
- Ensure programs are operated in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain appropriate safety procedures, certifications, staffing ratios and documentation.
- Ensure facilities, equipment and program spaces are clean, safe and properly maintained.
- Monitor participant satisfaction and use feedback to improve programs.
Ontario County Opioid Grant
- Oversee implementation of the Ontario County Opioid Grant and ensure grant requirements and deliverables are met.
- Establish and coordinate a working committee to support grant implementation.
- Develop and monitor measurable goals, objectives and outcomes.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community partners involved in grant initiatives.
- Train current staff on applicable grant requirements, responsibilities and deliverables.
- Track program activities, outcomes and required documentation.
- Prepare and submit timely grant updates and reports to Ontario County Mental Health.
- Ensure grant-funded activities remain aligned with YMCA priorities and community needs.
Leadership & Organizational Responsibilities
- Participate as a member of the YMCA leadership team.
- Work collaboratively with membership, marketing, childcare, aquatics, fitness and other departments.
- Assist with YMCA special events, fundraising initiatives and community outreach.
- Support the Executive Director in implementing strategic priorities.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, business, nonprofit management or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in YMCA, recreation, nonprofit, education, fitness or related programming.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and developing staff.
- Demonstrated budgeting and financial management experience.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a leadership team.
- Strong computer and administrative skills.
Preferred
- YMCA experience and familiarity with YMCA program standards.
- Experience developing new programs and increasing participation.
- Experience managing multiple departments or program areas.
- Experience with grant administration, community partnerships or grant-funded programming.
- YMCA certifications appropriate to assigned program areas.

Physical & Work Requirements
The position requires the ability to work in a dynamic community recreation environment, including occasional evenings and weekends. The individual must be able to move throughout YMCA facilities and program areas and perform responsibilities associated with program supervision.
Compensation
$50,000–$60,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
