Full Job Description

Join our dynamic veterinary team as an Equine Ambulatory Technician/Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional care to horses traveling to barns and farms, while centered in a clinic-based setting. This is a full time temporary position through November and has the opportunity to resume full time in March 2027. This paid position offers the opportunity to work closely with an experienced veterinarian, supporting a wide range of equine medical services in the field. Your energetic approach and dedication will help ensure the health and well-being of our equine patients while gaining valuable hands-on experience in veterinary medicine. If you’re passionate about animal care, eager to expand your skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, this role is perfect for you!

Duties

Assist veterinarian during equine examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures in the field or at client locations
Handle and restrain horses safely using proper animal handling techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff
Prepare and maintain veterinary equipment, including medical instruments, laboratory tools, and radiology devices such as X-ray machines
Perform venipuncture (blood draws), administer medications, and assist with XR, IV insertions and vascular access procedures
Support diagnostic procedures including radiology diagnostics, laboratory work, and critical & intensive care assessments
Maintain detailed patient records using veterinary software, documenting treatments, medications, and procedures accurately
Communicate effectively with clients about pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs

Skills

Proven experience with equine animal husbandry, equine care, equine handling, and equine restraint techniques
Knowledge of equine veterinary terminology, equine animal anatomy, physiology, and veterinary surgical procedures
Hands-on experience with laboratory work such as phlebotomy and diagnostic testing; familiarity with radiology diagnostics is a plus
Ability to operate medical equipment including anesthesia monitors, radiology equipment (X-ray), and laboratory analyzers
Strong understanding of equine veterinary critical care practices, emergency medicine protocols, and aseptic techniques
Skilled in equine animal catheterization, IV insertion, medication administration, and equine veterinary anesthesia monitoring
Excellent client communication skills to educate pet owners about their animals’ health needs
