Full Job Description

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Immediate opening for a full-time medical billing and coding specialist for an Internal Medicine Practice in Johns Creek, GA. Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing is required. Duties will include claim coding, verification and filing, claim follow-up and appeals, assisting patients with billing questions, verifying patient balances, preparing and mailing monthly statements and other duties as needed. Candidate must have excellent computer skills. Health insurance available. Simple IRA and paid vacations/holidays offered. Candidate must have high speed internet as this is a work from home position (Quarterly staff meetings in office mandatory and must pick up claims weekly at office).

Responsibilities:

Prepare and submit billing data and medical claims to insurance companies.
Ensure the patient’s medical information is accurate and up to date.
Prepare bills and invoices, and document amounts due to medical procedures and services.
Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
Verify patient benefit eligibility/coverage and research ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT treatment codes as needed
Monitor and record late payments.
Follow-up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies with insurance companies.
Examine patient bills for accuracy and request any missing information.
Investigate and appeal denied claims and call insurance companies as needed.
Prepare accounts that need to be sent to our collection company for further collection efforts.
Track and Prepare A/R reports for both insurance and patients.
Reconcile Quest Lab bill

Requirements:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a medical biller or similar role.
This position can be remotely done from home with phone calls, emails and messaging to Practice Manager as needed. Pick up claims from office weekly.
Extensive knowledge of ICD 10, CPT Codes, the use of modifiers and medical terminology.
Solid understanding of billing software and electronic medical records.
Experience with eClinicalWorks EMR is preferred
Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities.
