Private Aviary Seeks Animal Caretakers to Assist with Parrots and enclosures (PT, late afternoon.)

Seeking two animal caretakers to help with my parrot flock (PT, late afternoons, typically from 4:30 to 6:30 pm). Applicants must be willing to work on weekends, holidays, and to backup other teammates from time to time.

The tasks are to clean the aviary room and cages daily to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment.

The flock is a multi-species flock of 27 small to medium sized parrots (mostly mini-macaws, amazons, conures, and a special needs Blue and Gold macaw).

The flock lives in an indoor aviary/bird room specially constructed for them, in a residential setting, with access to sunshine and fresh air. Most flock members have been with me for 20 years or more. They are kept as intelligent, energetic, and entertaining companions, not as rescues or for commercial or breeding purposes.

Basic Description of tasks

A. Help in the aviary room for 2 to 4 late afternoon sessions per week

· Two teammates work together to clean the aviary room and cages daily to maintain a healthy and sanitary environment.

· The tasks include the removal and replacement of water bowls and food bowls for cleaning in a dishwasher; steam cleaning of cages, aviary room, and floors. More specific explanation of tasks provided upon request.

· Assistance needed 2 to 4 afternoons per week on regularly scheduled days each week. (Typical regular times are: 4:30 to 6:30 PM) Once trained the initial per session fee is $28.00.

B. Necessary qualifications

· 20 or older adults, calm and reliable.
· Have one year or more of college or technical degree.
· Have relevant experience with routine daily cleaning of for animal living areas, including cages or enclosures.
· Have relevant animal care experience (such as the Humane Society, shelters, kennels, veterinary experience, wildlife rescue, farms, horse facilities, etc.)
Coverage over holiday and other breaks (fall, winter spring and summer) also necessary. Birds need care 24/7, 365.
· Live locally within 15 miles of East Athens – extended commute time is a problem
Reliable transportation necessary.
· Up to date flu and covid vaccination and boosters necessary!
· Non-smoking only

C. The following information is extremely important:

· List all tasks you have done on a regular day (AM and PM) to care for your animals or in performing Animal caretaking tasks for others.

· List your actual experience, including any vet clinic, shelter, rescue, or volunteer experience, farm animal care, and general pet care for others in a business setting. Include the length of your experience, species cared for, and any bird experience.

· Examples of relevant experience are:

· Cleaning cages or other enclosures where animals are kept
· Administration of medications (Experience is not required but is helpful.)
· Actual experience with birds or exotics of any species. Please list and describe.

Successful birdkeepers have personal qualities of curiosity, enjoyment of learning, attention to detail, ability to adapt to new tasks as part of a caretaking team, and share the work load. It’s sometimes challenging, but rewarding, I’ve been told.
