About the Role
Join a federal firearms maintenance team responsible for keeping a large small-arms inventory safe, serviceable, and mission-ready. As a Level 3 Gunsmith / Armorer, you’ll inspect, maintain, repair, and account for weapons and related equipment to OEM and agency standards — and play a hands-on role in supporting law enforcement training.
This is a great fit for an experienced armorer who enjoys precise, hands-on work and takes pride in clean documentation and a well-run shop. You’ll work with a range of platforms including Colt carbines and AR-pattern rifles, Glock pistols, Staccato / STI 2011 pistols, and Remington shotguns, along with optics, lasers, lights, and night-vision equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Inspect, service, clean, repair, and function-check firearms and components to OEM and agency standards
- Diagnose and correct issues on-site where possible, such as component failures, fitment and sight-alignment problems, optic-mounting deficiencies, and safety-related defects.
- Install optics, backup iron sights, mounting plates, lasers, lights, and accessories using proper torque, alignment, thread-locking, and quality-control practices.
- Maintain weapons accountability and inventory control, including usage logs and organized, compliant vault and storage areas.
- Keep repair kits, tools, and spare parts stocked and mission-ready, and recommend new tools or equipment as needed.
- Coordinate factory and warranty repairs with manufacturers — tracking shipments, repairs, and return-to-service for firearms, optics, and related gear — and share relevant technical updates with the team.
- Support research and procurement of weapons, ammunition, optics, targets, and range supplies.
- Provide training and instruction to agency members on maintenance, optics, ballistics, ammunition selection, less-lethal weapons, and safety procedures.
- Support range operations, including serving as a Range Safety Officer when required and providing field maintenance during training events.
- Enforce safety rules and procedures, and prepare clear, accurate maintenance records and technical reports.
- Adapt to a fast-paced training environment with occasionally shifting schedules, and pitch in on related support tasks to keep the unit running smoothly.
What Success Looks Like
This role involves real production-level work, so we’ll look for a candidate who can confidently handle tasks such as:
- Inspecting and documenting findings on bolt carrier groups in volume (for example, batches of 100+).
- Identifying discrepancies on a rifle during a hands-on evaluation — including issues introduced intentionally to test attention to detail.
- Installing optics, backup iron sights, and mounting plates across multiple Glock pistols cleanly, with no damage to slides, optics, or hardware.
- Completing inspection, installation, repair, and documentation tasks accurately and within normal duty-day timelines.
What You Bring
- Advanced hands-on gunsmith / armorer experience with the firearms and components listed above.
- Knowledge of OEM maintenance standards, firearm safety, armory operations, inventory accountability, secure storage, and range safety.
- Skill installing optics, sights, mounting plates, lasers, and lights without damaging government property.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control under production-level workloads.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce accurate reports and deliver instruction to others.
- Comfort with computers and common tools (Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, inventory and reporting systems).
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a Tier 2 background investigation and meet HSPD-12 credentialing requirements.
- Completion of a military, law enforcement, or equivalent gunsmith / armorer school plus 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Documented experience servicing Glock pistols, Colt-style and AR-platform rifles, Staccato / STI 2011 pistols, Remington shotguns, optics, sights, and bolt carrier groups.
- Ability to obtain and maintain factory-approved armorer credentials and Range Safety Officer status as required by the program.
- Physical ability to walk, bend, kneel, lift and carry, wear required PPE, and perform hands-on maintenance for extended periods.
Nice to Have
- Current factory or recognized armorer certifications.
- Current Range Safety Officer certification.
- Prior experience supporting a federal agency, law enforcement organization, military armory, or government contract.
- Experience training personnel on firearm maintenance and safety, and coordinating vendor repairs and warranty actions.
Prescreening & Work Environment
As part of screening, candidates may be asked to submit a short video demonstrating safe handling, unloaded-condition verification, basic disassembly/reassembly, and routine maintenance on a Colt carbine and Glock 17. The goal is simply to confirm professional competence.
Work is performed primarily on-site in an armory and training environment, Monday–Friday during normal business hours. We’re looking for someone who stays professional, responsive, and mission-focused when priorities shift quickly.
Pay: $27.49 - $33.11 per hour
