Pumping Systems Technician
Systems Pumping and Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY
This position performs technical duties associated with the maintenance and repair of lift stations and water stations.

MAJOR DUTIES

Performs routine inspections of lift stations.
Cleans and inspects floats, transducers and probes.
Records amperage; Tests lights and alarms.
Inspects all electrical controls and equipment.
Inspects and cleans wet wells; Tests generators.
Cleans lift station grounds; Troubleshoots and resolves problems.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of lift station inspection, repair and maintenance principles.
Knowledge of the hazards inherent to sewer maintenance work and the safety measures used to mitigate those hazards.
Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the maintenance of lift station equipment.
Knowledge of wastewater system testing principles and practices.
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Skill in the use of lift station maintenance tools and equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include OSHA and EPD guidelines and division and agency policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related technical duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to assist in the repair and maintenance of wastewater lift stations. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of agency operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching.
The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of or ability to obtain within one year a Wastewater Collection System Operator license as issued by the Georgia State Board of Examiners.
