Donoven Ag is a grain farm in north-central Montana looking for dependable, hardworking individuals to join our team. We have immediate openings for seasonal harvest help (now through October/November) as well as full-time farm employees.
Positions Available
- Combine Operators
- Equipment Operation: Operate self-propelled combine harvesters. Utilize GPS and auto-steer systems to navigate fields efficiently.
- Machine Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-operational checks on equipment. Perform routine servicing such as greasing, checking fluid levels, and cleaning filters.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor combine performance and adjust settings (e.g., cylinder speed, concave clearance, and fan speed) to optimize grain separation and minimize crop loss.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Perform basic field repairs, replace worn parts, and clear blockages to minimize downtime.
- Logistics & Coordination: Coordinate with grain cart operators and truck drivers for seamless grain transfer and transport to elevators.
- Documentation: Keep records of acres harvested, fuel consumption, and yield data.
- Grain Cart Operators
- Field Operations: Drive a tractor and grain cart alongside moving combines, allowing them to unload grain without stopping to minimize field downtime.
- Crop Transport: Transfer accumulated grain to trucks on the field edge or transport it directly to local grain bins and storage facilities.
- Loading Logistics: Work with truck drivers to ensure even loading and weight limits, and operate augers to unload cart contents directly into trailers.
- Equipment Upkeep: Perform walk-around safety inspections and routine maintenance (greasing, refueling, checking filters) on tractors and carts.
- Quality Monitoring: Assist in monitoring harvested grain for moisture levels, temperature, and quality issues.
- Safety Compliance: Operate heavy machinery safely around pedestrians and other harvest vehicles, strictly adhering to farm safety guidelines.
- Grain Bin/Bag Operator & General Farm Laborers
- Grain Handling & Transport: Receive crops from fields, operate dump pits, and transport grain using augers, conveyors, and grain belts. Transport grain between storage locations or to market using farm trucks.
- Drying & Monitoring: Operate and maintain grain dryers, fans, and heaters. Regularly monitor and test grain moisture and temperature levels to prevent spoilage.
- Grain Bagging & Maintenance: Oversee the setup, filling, and upkeep of grain bags used when permanent bins reach capacity. Treat bins and bags for pest control and fumigation.
- Cleaning & Clean-out: Shovel, sweep, and power wash bins and elevators. Dispose of spoiled grain and clear jams from automatic conveyor systems.
- Assist with general harvest operations.
About Our Farm
We are a diversified grain operation with no cattle. Depending on our crop rotation, we grow:
- Winter Wheat
- Spring Wheat
- Durum
- Barley
- Canola
- Chickpeas
- Lentils
- Mustard
What You'll Do
Responsibilities vary with the season and may include:
- Operating combines, grain carts, tractors, sprayers, drills, and other farm equipment
- Seeding, spraying, harvesting, and hauling grain
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Operating the grain bagger
- Rock picking and land rolling
- Equipment maintenance and servicing
- Building and bin site maintenance
- Mowing and other general farm duties
We're looking for people who:
- Have experience operating farm equipment
- Previous outdoor work involving physical labor, heavy lifting, and working in all weather conditions.
- Have a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Are dependable, honest, and work well as part of a team.
- Are willing to learn and grow within the operation.
- Can safely work long hours during our busy seasons.
Busy Season Expectations
Harvest and seeding are our busiest times of the year. During these seasons we typically work:
- 7 days per week (unless mother nature says differently)
- Approximately 18-hour days
The hours are long, but you'll be part of a hardworking team that takes pride in producing a successful crop.
