New Hope Veterinary Clinic – Certified Vet Tech Position
The New Hope Veterinary Clinic in German Valley, Illinois is searching for a hard-working individual to add to our team! We are currently seeking a full- or part-time vet tech with the ability to assist our doctors with animal care, handling, and surgical responsibilities. This individual will first be trained in receptionist duties and become familiar with our clinic processes. All employees must have the ability to professionally answer phones, use veterinary terminology, and navigate our computer software.
Our clinic is located in rural German Valley, Illinois between Pecatonica and Freeport. We are a 4 doctor, mixed-animal practice. Over the years, our clinic has expanded to an additional location in Rock City, IL. We have an excellent team of veterinarians and staff who really enjoy what they do, so an individual who complements our already fabulous team is a must!
We are seeking an individual with a vet tech certification, but will further consider applicants with prior veterinary assistant experience as well. In addition to the week day schedule, employees are expected to work in a Saturday rotation from 7-12:00. In our busy clinic setting, the ability to multitask while maintaining a calm, caring mindset is required.
Job responsibilities include:
· Maintain a clean, inviting clinic atmosphere
· Prioritize patient care & comfort
· Contribute to client communication & education
· Maintain accurate and easy to read records
· Assist veterinarians in all daily procedures utilizing proper animal handling techniques
· Update, rotate, and ensure adequate stock of all items in inventory
· Follow the clinic’s policies and protocols as stated in the employee handbook
· Check in patients being dropped off for surgical procedures. Explain the surgical prep, after care, and answer routine questions from the client
· Discuss financial investment for surgical procedure using pre-approved estimate
· Assist veterinarian with drawing and running pre-surgical bloodwork
· Assist in patient preparations: moving patient to and from surgery table, clipping, scrubbing, and other general procedures
· Monitor patient under anesthesia; alert veterinarian to any changes in patient vitals
· Provide after care and monitoring throughout the entire day following the procedure
· Wash and autoclave surgical tools and drapes daily
· Unpack inventory items upon arrival to clinic, making sure to rotate inventory based upon expiration dates
· Greet clients quickly and professionally upon arrival into the office
· Verbally verify client name, patient name(s), and contact information on their account (address, e-mail, phone numbers)
· Obtain an accurate patient weight and record it
· Gather a brief history and obtain information relevant to the current visit. Relay important history details and reason for visit to veterinarian
· Provide client education to promote our services and inventory items available
· Explain which services are due at today’s visit; obtain approval for vaccine updates, sample collections, and tests to be ran
· Gather supplies needed for appointment and draw up vaccines
· Assist in handling throughout procedures conducted in the exam room
· Assist veterinarian in filling prescriptions, creating labels, scheduling follow-up visits, and explaining medication instructions and aftercare
· Obtain samples and process them as directed by veterinarian; ensure proper labeling and packaging of all samples collected from a patient
· Assist in preparing laboratory submissions to be sent out
· Become proficient in all testing equipment at the clinic
· Ensure that quality controls and equipment maintenance occur on a regular basis
· Ensure that exam rooms are stocked with useable supplies (syringes, stethoscopes, ear swabs, gauze, etc)
· Keep work areas clean; frequently sweep and mop floors throughout the office as needed (exam rooms, waiting area, break room, doctor offices, laboratory, kennels)
· Keep kennels and patients clean at all times
· Assist with receptionist duties as needed; be able to schedule appointments and successfully navigate AviMark software
· Answer phones quickly and professionally; knowledgeably assist client in scheduling or answer questions pertaining to services requested
· All other duties as assigned
Pay rate determined individually, based upon education and experience.
