Job Title: HR Coordinator

Industry: Nonprofit / Professional Association

Location (city, state): Washington, DC

Assignment Type: Contract — 3–6 months, with potential for extension

Pay: $25–$30 per hour (depending on experience)

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with some flexibility. Hybrid schedule with 2 days onsite per week. Tuesday is the designated team onsite day, with a second onsite day determined in partnership with the manager. During the initial onboarding period, the role may require up to 3 onsite days per week.

Our client is a well-established nonprofit professional association within the healthcare industry. The organization supports a large community of professionals through education, professional development, research, accreditation, publications, and other resources designed to advance its field.

Job Description:

Our client is seeking an organized, service-oriented HR Coordinator to provide administrative and project support within its People Operations department. This role will support day-to-day HR operations, employee communications, benefits administration, and upcoming employee engagement initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a proactive team player who enjoys being hands-on, is comfortable managing multiple priorities, and takes pride in providing responsive and professional support to employees and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the HR/People Operations shared inbox by responding to routine inquiries, directing questions to the appropriate team members, monitoring outstanding requests, and ensuring timely follow-up.
Assist with a project to review, update, and improve the employee handbook.
Provide administrative and logistical support for the organization's annual employee wellness event.
Assist with reviewing, coding, tracking, and processing benefits-related invoices.
Provide general administrative and project support to the People Operations team.
Help coordinate various HR initiatives and projects as assigned.
Maintain clear communication with team members and stakeholders to ensure tasks and projects remain on track.

Qualifications:

2–5 years of experience in HR, People Operations, administrative support, or a related field.
Experience within a professional association and/or healthcare environment is preferred.
Experience working with an HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite.
Previous experience writing HR policies, editing employee handbooks, or developing employee-facing documentation is highly valued.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong follow-through with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
A proactive, team-oriented approach and a “no task is too small” mentality.
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.

Additional Details:

This is a 3–6 month contract assignment with potential for extension.
The position is available to start ASAP.
40 hours per week.
Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility.
Hybrid schedule requiring 2 days onsite per week.
Tuesday is the consistent onsite day for the team.
The second onsite day will be determined with the manager based on team needs.
During the initial onboarding period, the position may require up to 3 days onsite per week.
Candidates must be available to work during the weeks of October 26, November 2, and November 9.
