Full Job Description

THE POSITION

Join the Department of Transportation as a Driver License Examiner and be part of a fast-paced and meaningful mission. You will help drivers take the steps needed to earn their license and begin a new chapter of independence. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on testing driver license applicants and assisting customers at Driver License Centers while supporting secure and accurate identity verification. As a Driver License Examiner, you will perform the following duties:

Driver Evaluation: Determine applicant qualifications and evaluate vehicle condition for safe operation
Testing Administration: Administer vision, knowledge, and road tests according to established standards
Document Review: Examine identity and residency documents to verify authenticity and detect fraud
Customer Processing: Issue driver license products and provide information on renewals and requirements
System Verification: Access databases to authenticate documents and confirm licensing eligibility

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Overtime and travel may be required
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements:

This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.

This position requires the selected candidate to undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.
