Position Overview
Sofidel America is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team.
The EHS Manager will provide leadership, direction, and oversight for environmental, health, safety, and security programs within our Arizona manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures that promote a strong culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental excellence.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing EHS programs in an industrial or manufacturing environment and a demonstrated ability to influence employees and leadership at all levels of the organization.
This position requires regular travel between Sofidel America’s facilities located on 51st Avenue in Phoenix, 17th Avenue in Phoenix, and in Gila Bend, Arizona. Candidates must be willing and able to support each location based on operational and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, manage, and maintain current and accurate environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, manuals, and programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Sofidel corporate policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Provide EHS leadership and support across assigned Arizona facilities.
- Partner with plant leadership, supervisors, and employees to strengthen safety performance and accountability.
- Monitor changes to environmental, health, and safety regulations and communicate applicable requirements to plant leadership and employees.
- Develop and deliver effective EHS training programs that satisfy regulatory requirements and reinforce a safe and compliant work environment.
- Provide formal and informal training, guidance, and coaching to employees, supervisors, and managers regarding safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Manage and maintain emergency response and emergency action plans for employees, contractors, visitors, and company property.
- Conduct environmental, health, and safety orientations for new employees and visiting contractors.
- Serve as the EHS representative for the installation, modification, and operation of new equipment.
- Coordinate and facilitate regularly scheduled Safety Committee meetings for plant employees and management.
- Conduct routine inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits throughout assigned manufacturing facilities.
- Coordinate internal and external EHS audits and ensure identified corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.
- Analyze safety trends and performance data and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims and communicate with insurance carriers, brokers, medical providers, and other appropriate parties.
- Conduct risk assessments across all departments and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, equipment, and work practices.
- Observe work activities throughout the facilities and provide coaching and corrective guidance regarding unsafe acts, conditions, and behaviors.
- Communicate regulatory, environmental, and permit requirements to plant leadership and applicable departments.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of personal protective equipment and other safety-related supplies.
- Prepare annual EHS budget recommendations, monitor expenses, and investigate and report budget variances.
- Serve as the security administrator for assigned facilities and support site security policies, systems, and procedures.
- Promote and maintain clean, safe, and orderly work environments in compliance with established safety procedures and equipment operating requirements.
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, near misses, environmental events, and property damage, and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain required regulatory records, reports, permits, training documentation, and compliance files.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and cross-functional work groups to communicate EHS concerns, resolve issues, obtain approvals, and coordinate improvement initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry developments, regulatory requirements, company policies, and environmental, health, and safety best practices.
- Travel regularly among the 51st Avenue Phoenix, 17th Avenue Phoenix, and Gila Bend facilities to provide on-site leadership and support.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of five years of progressive environmental, health, and safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting multiple facilities or operational locations is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing EHS policies, programs, procedures, and training.
- Strong leadership, influencing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, contractors, regulatory agencies, and external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to lead significant performance, compliance, and process improvements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence safety performance at all levels of the organization.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing and able to travel regularly between Sofidel America’s 51st Avenue Phoenix, 17th Avenue Phoenix, and Gila Bend facilities.
