Tax Manager - Public Accounting
Phoenix, AZ

Must-Haves

Active CPA license required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
3+ years of public accounting tax experience with a focus on small business and individual taxation
Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex tax returns and tax planning strategies
Experience managing client engagements, workflows, and staff
Strong technical knowledge of corporate, partnership, and individual taxation
Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines
Strong client relationship management and business development skills
Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing accounting staff
Master’s in Taxation preferred
Master’s in Accounting is a plus

A growing CPA firm in North Central Phoenix is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its expanding public accounting team. This leadership role offers the opportunity to manage complex tax engagements, mentor staff, build strong client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of a collaborative and entrepreneurial firm environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proactive approach to client service, tax planning, and business development.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and analyze tax returns, financial statements, and accounting records for accuracy and compliance
Provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance services for individuals and small businesses
Manage multiple tax engagements, including budgeting, risk assessment, scheduling, and strategic planning
Research and resolve complex tax and accounting issues while providing guidance to staff and clients
Develop and maintain strong client relationships while identifying value-added advisory opportunities
Review staff work product and provide technical guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback
Supervise workflows, engagement productivity, realization, and utilization across tax teams
Stay current on tax law changes, accounting developments, and industry trends
Prepare complex client correspondence, technical recommendations, and tax-related communications
Participate in networking, marketing, business development, and community involvement activities
Identify cross-selling opportunities and support firm growth initiatives
Lead staff training and encourage effective use of tax software and technology platforms
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and developing accounting professionals
Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on mentorship and professional growth
