Full Job Description

Job Summary:
Under occasional supervision, assists in the management of merchandise operations, ensuring a consistently improving level of guest satisfaction and maximum profitability from each shop and kiosk. Supervises and reviews the work of seasonal managerial staff. Performs related professional and supervisory duties as required. This position reports to the Merchandise & Games Manager.

Hours: 1900 hours annually. 40 hours a week during summer operation. 16-32 hours a week during spring/fall operation and/or in accordance to business needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assists in planning and supervising the merchandise retail operations of the Park.
Supervises seasonal retail managers; supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing, and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee promotions, transfers, discipline, and discharge.
Replenish and ensure that all areas of the Retail Spaces are well merchandised when built, and also consistently upkept. Visual Merchandising standards should be understood and maintained as best is possible throughout the entire season.
Can develop planograms and floorplans to support effective product placement.
Reviews the work of subordinates for effectiveness; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice, discipline, and assistance as needed.
Reviews work schedules of staff to ensure adequate coverage.
Assists in developing and enforcing department policies and procedures.
Ensure operations stay within budget guidelines. This applies to controlling cost of goods, theft, and labor and meeting revenue/per cap goals of department as set.
Assists in developing short- and long-range plans and strategies to meet or exceed sales and inventory goals.
Inspects merchandise retail units for visual integrity, inventory control, operational efficiencies, and safety.
Ensures the provision of quality, professional customer service.
Identifies operational problems or potential problems and initiates effective resolutions.
Schedules and assists with cycle counts and inventory.
Compiles merchandise sales information and prepares related reports.
Assists in developing capital expenditure and plant improvement plans and overseeing construction.
Serves as liaison for concessions.
Ensures the proper maintenance and cleaning of retail facilities. Generates maintenance requests and project requests.
Encourages a safe, pleasant work environment for employees.
Keeps abreast of retail trends, technology, and products for the theme park industry.
Receives and responds to guest comment reports and interacts with Park guests in person; takes corrective action as necessary to maintain guest satisfaction.
Receives and reviews various records and reports including staffing reports, operations reports,
labor reports, income statements, sales reports, inventory records and reports, cash reports, incident reports, etc.
Prepares and/or processes performance evaluations, budgets, budget forecasts, sales and inventory reports, revenue comparisons, various other reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
Refers to policies and procedures, operations manuals, project drawings, equipment manuals, etc.
Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, copier, scanner, calculator, telephone, two-way radio, cash register, credit card machine, etc.
Uses computer and clerical supplies.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other Park managers and staff, subordinates, corporate personnel, guests, vendors, concessionaires, consultants, contractors, etc.
Cover 220 Merchandise & Games Department role on a regular basis. This will include consistently moving throughout the park to maintain awareness of total operation.
Handle and assist in emergency situations as needed.
Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

High School graduate or equivalent preferred
2 years’ experience minimum in related experience in merchandise management or supervisory role.
Must be at least 18 years or older
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
Ability to work well with and lead other people.
Able to work in all weather conditions.
Must have reliable transportation.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to meet Gilroy Gardens availability and attendance requirements as outlined in Gilroy Gardens attendance policies.
Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education, and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

Occasionally in contact with abrasive/sharp objects, skin irritants and toxic exposure (cleaning supplies)
Frequently exposed to warm room temperatures and humid environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Train staff in proper guest service, stocking techniques, and safety procedures.
Ability to apply supervisory and managerial concepts and principles; has the knowledge of administrative principles involved in developing, directing, and supervising various programs and related activities.
Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in supervising various programs including the handling of emergency situations, determining procedures, setting priorities, setting schedules, maintaining standards, planning for future needs, and resolving problems.
Coordinate with key merchandise & games management to ensure full displays and proper service.
Responds to and takes appropriate action to resolve concerns and merch complaints from park guests and associates.
Maintains clear, concise and specific lines of communication between management, associates and other departments.
Evaluates job performance of Merchandise & Games supervisors and makes necessary recommendations.
Ability to lead associates.
Meets scheduling availability requirements, including nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
