We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician/Lab Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in ophthalmology, medical terminology, and optical practices, with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care and support. As an Optical Assistant, you will play a vital role in assisting optometrists and opticians, managing patient interactions, and ensuring the smooth operation of the optical department. Your expertise will contribute to providing comprehensive eye care services while maintaining high standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Greet patients warmly and assist with their needs.
Assist Opticians with lab duties.
Answer phones and schedule appointments.
Manage optical inventory, including ordering supplies, maintaining stock levels, and organizing optical products for retail sales.
Provide excellent customer service.
Support laboratory activities such as lens fitting, adjustments, and basic repairs to ensure timely delivery of eyewear.
Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
Collaborate with clinic staff to streamline workflows within EMR systems,
Assist in billing processes related to medical coding and medical billing practices to ensure accurate insurance claims processing.
Participate in ongoing training related to ophthalmology advancements, medical terminology updates, and new optical technologies.

Requirements

Prior experience in an ophthalmology or optometry clinic setting is highly preferred.
Familiarity with EMR systems such as Officemate or comparable electronic health record platforms.
Understanding of medical terminology pertinent to ophthalmology and general healthcare environments.
Experience with laboratory procedures involving lenses, frame adjustments, or optical equipment is advantageous.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security at all times.
Excellent communication skills
Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills for effective product promotion and inventory management.
Basic understanding of medical coding practices related to eye care services for billing purposes.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
