Full Job Description

Accounts Payable Specialist – Construction Accounting

Rental Renovators, Inc. dba P. J. Hussey Construction is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Specialist to join our growing team in Phoenix, Arizona. This is a full-time, in-office position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and takes pride in accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.

This is not an entry-level accounting position. We're seeking a highly experienced professional who can quickly become a trusted member of our accounting team with minimal supervision. If you have advanced QuickBooks Online skills, understand construction job costing, and enjoy building strong vendor relationships while keeping projects financially organized, we'd love to meet you.

Position Responsibilities

Process high-volume accounts payable invoices accurately and efficiently.
Code invoices to the proper jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts.
Maintain accurate job costing and ensure expenses are allocated correctly.
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice discrepancies promptly.
Communicate professionally with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors regarding payments, billing questions, and account issues.
Prepare weekly check runs and electronic payments.
Maintain organized vendor files, W-9s, certificates of insurance, and supporting documentation.
Work closely with Project Managers and Operations to ensure invoices are approved and coded correctly.
Assist with month-end closing procedures related to accounts payable.
Maintain accurate records while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Support the accounting department with additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

5+ years of recent QuickBooks Online experience required.
Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required.
Candidates must be comfortable managing construction accounts payable independently, including job costing, vendor management, and month-end support, with minimal supervision.
5+ years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably in the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and job costing.
Experience coding invoices to jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Professional and courteous when communicating with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Experience with residential remodeling or residential construction accounting.
Experience working with purchase orders, change orders, and project-based accounting.
Familiarity with Buildertrend or similar construction management software is a plus.
