Job Summary:

The Resident Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive activity program tailored to the residents while supporting all aspects of our Memory Support Program. The activities should cater to residents' physical, social, cultural, spiritual, recreational, psychological, philosophical, sensory, and therapeutic needs. Additionally, the coordinator is tasked with publishing a monthly calendar of activities and engaging with residents, staff, and families to ensure an enriching and supportive environment.

Essential Job Duties:

Program Development: Plan, coordinate, schedule and execute activities that align with residents’ abilities, interests, and needs, ensuring a holistic approach that covers physical, emotional, and cognitive stimulation.
Staff Education: Provide continuous education and guidance to staff regarding their involvement with Memory Support residents, ensuring that each team member understands their role in resident engagement and provide staff with the necessary tools to execute spontaneous and guided activities when REC is not present.
Calendar & Newsletter Management: Create and distribute a monthly activity calendar and newsletter to keep residents, staff, and families informed.
Coordination of Excursions: Plan and coordinate resident excursions, ensuring appropriate transportation is arranged in collaboration with the community chauffeur.
Resource Management: Maintain a sufficient inventory of activity supplies, including games, books, puzzles, movies, and craft materials, while ensuring residents’ diverse interests are represented.
Holiday & Event Celebrations: Organize and celebrate holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and special events that are significant to residents.
Compliance & Knowledge: Stay updated on state regulations and best practices related to activities and therapies for seniors, ensuring compliance.
Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the community, families, and external service providers. Participate in marketing efforts by showcasing resident activities to prospective families.
Support Groups: Work with external resources to develop support groups for families of Memory Support residents, providing education and emotional support on a monthly and ongoing basis.
Resident & Family Satisfaction: Conduct surveys to evaluate resident and family satisfaction levels and implement improvements as needed.
Professional Image: Maintain a professional and positive demeanor, adhering to dress code policies, and representing the community in a positive light.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

Assist with building tours and community marketing efforts as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Certified Caregiver Certificate or able to obtain within 60 days of hire.
CPR & First Aid Certification.
Food Handler’s Card.
Fingerprint Clearance Card.
State accreditation for Activities Director (if applicable).
Two years of college coursework (preferred).
National Counsel of Certified Dementia Practitioner certification or able to obtain within (90 days)

Experience Required:

Two or more years of experience working with seniors in a social, recreational, or creative environment with geriatrics.
Experience in geriatric or long-term care, preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

Sensitivity to the needs and limitations of seniors.
Creative and imaginative, with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to read and write in English.
Flexibility with work hours to accommodate resident needs and special events.
Valid AZ driver’s license.
Computer literacy required.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Mobility to perform tasks such as bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods.
Capability to move throughout the community during the workday.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and push up to 70 lbs. when necessary.
Ability to assist residents in emergencies.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including comprehension and math skills to support budgeting tasks.
Occasional travel may be required.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
Potential exposure to infectious diseases and contaminated materials.
