Annual Salary Range: $71,800 - $105,900
The successful candidate’s placement in the salary range will depend upon previous experience in a similar role. The placement shall not exceed the midpoint of the salary range, which is $88,800 annually.

DESCRIPTION / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Arts Learning Coordinator is a leading member of the Community Arts team within the Arts & Culture Division and coordinates visual arts classes, workshops and arts learning initiatives at the Edna Vihel Arts Center and satellite locations. This position recruits, trains and supervises teaching artists, volunteers and part-time staff to facilitate accessible and engaging programming. Classes and workshops include ceramics, textiles, printmaking, drawing and painting for youth, teens and adults.
Events Coordinator is a leading member of the Community Arts team within the Arts & Culture Division and coordinates music related initiatives, residencies, events in diverse locations in Tempe, including public facilities and neighborhood parks. This position recruits and supervises event staff, manages contracts and collaborates with artists, schools, arts organizations and other city departments to facilitate accessible and engaging programming. Programs include but are not limited to Tempe Playlist, Music under the Stars and Tempe Jam.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following
- Plans and implements specialized arts programming and exhibitions, including artist engagement, technical production, and public art project support.
- Supports program sustainability by tracking earned revenue, fees, and sponsorships; manages contracts and partnerships with artists, vendors, and program partners.
- Coordinates technical, production, patron, and facility needs to ensure safe, accessible, and high-quality arts experiences; ensures compliance with accessibility and safety standards across facilities, venues, and events
- Provides expertise on division programs, services, and facilities; assesses the needs and desires of the community as they relate to programs and services.
- Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, oversees, and evaluates the daily work and schedules of assigned staff and provides coaching, mentoring, and training for those positions.
- Liaises with other city departments, external organizations, and the public, responding to inquiries from outside organizations, community members, and artists.
- Responds to inquiries from the public, artists, and organizations regarding Arts and Culture programs, services and facilities as they relate to assigned work area; builds partnerships to expand access and participation.
- Performs administrative and program functions such as budgeting, purchasing, contract administration, reporting, and expense monitoring; attends team meetings and planning sessions to provide updates and reports.
- Assists in the preparation of program marketing materials, including press releases, flyers and digital communications, as they relate to the work area.
- May perform responsibilities of a similar nature and level as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in arts and cultural events, programming, production, operations, management, or related experience.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in performing arts, fine arts, arts administration, history or related field.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal one-year increments for college-level education (2 additional years for an associate degree and 4 additional years for a bachelor’s degree).
