Position Summary
The Enhancement Department Manager provides leadership and oversight for the Enhancement Department, including landscape enhancements, irrigation services, landscape construction, and specialty projects. This position is responsible for the department's operational performance, profitability, customer satisfaction, safety, and employee development while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
The Enhancement Department Manager leads by example, develops future leaders, promotes a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and models the company's core values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, direction, and accountability for all Enhancement Department operations
- Oversees enhancement installations, irrigation projects, landscape construction, renovations, seasonal, and specialty projects
- Develop department goals aligned with company initiatives
- Creates a culture of accountability, ownership, teamwork, coaching, and continuous improvement
- Coaches, mentors, and develops direct reports into future leaders
- Conducts regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports
- Holds Production Managers, and Crew Leaders accountable for departmental expectations and performance
- Promotes a positive work environment built on professionalism, communication, and mutual respect
- Oversees scheduling, crew staffing, equipment allocation, and project execution
- Ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to company quality standards
- Monitors progress and reallocates resources when necessary
- Identifies operational inefficiencies and implements process improvements
- Develops, updates, and enforces departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Establishes performance metrics and departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Ensures all work is performance in compliance with company standards and regulations
- Develops and manages departmental annual budgets
- Monitors department profitability and financial performance
- Reviews job costing and production reports regularly
- Ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget
- Reviews labor efficiency and productivity metrics
- Monitors equipment utilization and replacement planning
- Approves departmental purchases within authorized limits
- Reviews vendor pricing and subcontractor costs to ensure competitiveness
- Identifies opportunities to improve gross profit and operational efficiencies
- Review estimates for accuracy, profitability, and feasibility
- Partners with Sales and Account Management on project planning and execution
- Coordinates with customers, vendors subcontractors, and general contractors throughout project lifecycle
- Attend customer meetings, pre-construction meetings, and job-site meetings as required
- Resolves project issues proactively while maintaining exceptional customer service
- Partners with Human Resources on staffing, employee relations, correction action, performance management, and succession planning
- Conducts employee coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions consistent with company policy
- Ensures onboarding and training programs are completed successfully
- Identifies future leaders and develops internal career paths
- Creates an environment where employees receive regular feedback and recognition
- Champions the company safety's culture
- Partners closely with the Branch Safety Lead (BSL) to support and reinforce all company safety initiatives, policies, training, and compliance efforts
- Works alongside Branch Safety Lead in the investigation, documentation, communication, and follow up of all workplace incidents in accordance with company procedures
- Supports the Branch Safety Lead in identifying root causes of incidents and implementing corrective and preventative actions
- Ensures compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
- Conducts regular safety observations while on jobsite inspections
- Investigates accidents and near misses
- Ensure Workers Compensation claims are reported and documented in a timely manner
- Reviews safety trends and implements corrective actions
- Ensure equipment is operated, transported, and maintained safely
- Maintains department reports, dashboards, and operational metrics
- Ensures timely submission for payroll, production reports, job documentation, and field paperwork
- Reviews and approves department invoices and purchasing documentation
- Maintains accurate records and project documentation
- Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning sessions
- Identifies opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and operational processes
- Implements Lean thinking and continuous improvement initiatives where appropriate
- Encourages innovation and problem solving throughout the department
- Stays current on industry trends, products, technology, and best practices
- Participates in professional development opportunities and industry organization
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in landscape management, Horticulture, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Valid Driver's License and insurable on company's insurance policy
- Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred ( Manager is resourceful in learning/managing any language barrier without pulling others out of their lane to translate for them)
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and company technology/software systems
Required Experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the Green Industry
- Minimum 3-5 years of management experience leading multiple teams
- Experience managing enhancement, irrigation, and landscape construction operations preferred
- Experience with budgeting and P&L management
- Experience developing supervisors and leadership teams
- Experience with estimating and project management
Reporting
The Enhancement Department Manager reports to the General Manager.
Location
This position is based in Tulsa, OK and the employee will be expected to primarily work Monday-Friday and occasional weekends.
