ADK’s Human Resources Administrator is an integral member of the administrative team including the Executive Director, Director of Operations, Director of North Country Business Operations, and other key director level staff. This part-time position will primarily engage in tasks that are amplified due to hiring ADK’s seasonal staff; ADK’s workforce nearly doubles in size each summer.
This is a new position which has been established to provide more capacity at the administrative and leadership level of the organization. Currently this work is primarily conducted by the Director of Operations. This position offers new opportunities for ADK to provide more capacity to improve overall HR management and leadership in the organization. The position collaborates extensively with many leadership team members and works to improve overall processes and outcomes for the organization.
Oversight and Administration
- Assist in creating, planning, and implementing company-wide HR programs and policies with a focus on hiring, staffing, compensation, retention, and benefits administration.
- Ensure ADK compliance with human resources and labor laws in partnership with director of operations and executive director.
- Plan and manage the HR budget.
- Oversee HR issues in departments and serve as the main point of contact for escalations.
- Track hiring goals in departments and implement with department heads any necessary improvements.
- Partner with executive director on the annual performance review process.
- Maintain professional knowledge and skills through continuous training and research.
Hiring and Recruitment
- Manage and provide administrative support for each department head for seasonal and other hiring including posting positions, recruiting candidates, reviewing resumes, setting up interviews, tracking applications, letters of hire, and completing all other related administrative tasks as a support to department directors.
- Coordinate background checks, onboarding, on-going and seasonal hiring, I-9 compliance, health questionnaires, training materials development and distribution, housing agreements, and overall training compliance.
- Create, refine, and manage processes for recruitment of seasonal staffing.
- Manage terminations, unemployment insurances processes, and rehire eligibility.
- Develop, in partnership with other staff, recruitment methods including efforts to diversify applicant pools.
- Field ideas and develop new plans for improving human resources and hiring processes at ADK in partnership with other leadership staff.
- Coordinate with director of operations and senior accountant to integrate payroll with accounting, benefits, and timekeeping systems.
Retention and Benefits
- In partnership with Director of Operations and Executive Director, develop and implement seasonal employee retention strategies.
- Collaborate on benefits administration and processes to communicate benefits to staff.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits, leave policies, and other HR-related matters.
- Coordinate employee recognition, appreciation, and wellness initiatives that support staff engagement and retention.
- Conduct and summarize exit interviews and identify trends to improve employee retention and workplace satisfaction.
- Assist with the administration of employee leave programs, including family and medical leave, paid time off, and other leave policies, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
- Maintain accurate personnel records related to benefits, leave, and employee status changes.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment activities and assist employees with benefits education and required documentation.
- Track employee retention, turnover, and vacancy metrics and prepare reports for leadership to support workforce planning.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and communication of employee handbook updates and HR policies related to benefits and retention.
- Coordinate employee engagement activities, staff surveys, and feedback initiatives, and assist leadership in implementing improvements based on results.
- Identify opportunities to improve employee experience.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience with increasing responsibilities in human resources.
- Strong skills in administrative management including mastering of applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams, Word, Zoom, and payroll software. PEO platform knowledge is a plus.
- Must be highly adaptive to management styles and changing needs, reprioritizing tasks and projects as needed.
- Must be tech savvy and able to learn new programs and applications quickly and efficiently.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required, must have an articulate, diplomatic, professional, and highly responsive communication style.
- Must be able to work both independently and as an integral member of various teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and deal with highly confidential information.
- Interest in and enthusiasm for the nonprofit sector.
- Commitment to strong performance, high standard of accountability, and openness to feedback.
- Must have a solution-oriented approach to conflicts and a sense of humor.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Hybrid-remote position, working from Saratoga Springs office two to three days per week. Travel to ADK’s Heart Lake Program Center in Lake Placid is required one to two times per month depending on the season. Hours before summer seasonal hiring may exceed part-time some weeks. Flex and comp time is an ADK benefit and therefore a strong component of the seasonality of this position.

Salary/Wage: $35,000–40,000
