Full Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Buyer is responsible for ensuring Metalcraft Industries has the right materials, outside services, and supplier capacity available to meet customer delivery commitments while protecting company profitability. The Buyer develops and manages supplier relationships, negotiates pricing and lead times, maintains purchasing data within the ERP system, and proactively manages supply chain risk. This position serves as the primary liaison between suppliers and internal operations to ensure uninterrupted material flow in support of production schedules, customer requirements, and strategic business objectives.

LEGAL DESCRIPTION:

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and coordinating the timely delivery of raw materials, manufactured components, outside processing, maintenance supplies, and other purchased goods and services necessary to support manufacturing operations.

This position administers purchasing activities including supplier selection, quotation requests, purchase order creation, supplier performance monitoring, contract and pricing negotiations, inventory support, and supplier communications. The Buyer maintains purchasing records within the ERP system and ensures procurement activities comply with company policies, customer requirements, quality standards, and applicable contractual obligations.

The Buyer collaborates with Estimating, Production Planning, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Inventory Control, and Manufacturing to maintain material availability, minimize production interruptions, and continuously improve supplier performance, purchasing efficiency, and cost competitiveness.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelors Business, engineering or supply chain, or equivalent work experience

Work Experience:

2 years in Manufacturing, education applies

Supervisory Experience

N/A

Licenses / Certifications / Accreditations:

CSPC, CPIM, equivalent certificates preferred

Computer Skills:

Strong MS, ERP, Excel

Language Skills:

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND METRICS:

Material Availability & Production Support

Owns material availability required to meet customer delivery schedules.

Ensure raw materials and outside services are available before production requires them.
Coordinate material priorities with Planning and Production.
Metric: Material shortages causing production downtime

Supplier Performance Management

Owns supplier quality, delivery performance, and responsiveness.

Develop and maintain Approved Vendor List.
Conduct supplier performance reviews.
Work with Quality on supplier corrective actions.
Metric: Supplier OTD
Metric: Supplier scorecards

Cost Management & Negotiation

Owns purchased material and outside service costs.

Negotiate pricing and lead times.
Ensures pricing is equal to or lower than estimated router pricing.
Metric: Purchase price variance actual versus router.

Supply Chain Risk Management

Owns identification and mitigation of materials and supplier risks.

Identify sole-source risks and develop alternate or contingency supplier.
Monitor long lead-time materials.
Communicate potential disruptions to management.

Internal Customer Service

Provides responsive purchasing support to internal departments.

Support Estimating with supplier quotations.
Support Production with schedule changes.
Support Accounting with invoice discrepancies.
Will fill Planner role when needed. Sick, PTO circumstances.

Job Type: Full-time
