Full Job Description

General Function

The Culinary Arts Instructor - Correctional Programs (Part-time) is responsible for providing quality instruction in lab and lecture in the the correctional setting. The Instructor is responsible for checking emails, preparing inventory and grocery lists for the department head, and class preparation to prepare students for a successful career.

Qualifications

Associate's degree from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline
Must have a minimum of 2 years of kitchen experience
Experience teaching in adult education or correctional settings
SERV Safe certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills
Ability to work effectively in a secure, structured environment
Licensure and/or certification requirements specific to the teaching discipline and external governing agencies shall be on file with Human Resources

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a correctional facility with exposure to secure environments and strict protocols
Candidate must be willing to work in a correctional facility in direct contact with incarcerated individuals
Must be able to walk around the kitchen to oversee student labs and give input
Frequent standing for several hours per day
Frequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campuses
Hours will vary based on correctional facility and course

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Culinary Arts Instructor - Correctional Programs (Part-time) include, but are not limited to:

Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline
Instruct students in food preparation, cooking techniques, baking, nutrition, menu planning, and kitchen operations
Enforce sanitation, hygiene, and safety protocols in accordance with local health codes and facility regulations
Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, interactive technology, etc., when appropriate
Prepare and present material for program classes according to curriculum guidelines
Design, write, administer, and grade exams, quizzes, and other forms of student evaluation
Motivate students to attend class, as measured by an acceptable rate of attendance and retention
Receive positive and acceptable student feedback in evaluations
Keep accurate attendance records in two forms, a daily sign-in sheet for participants and a classroom record
Meet deadlines for required paperwork
Exhibit professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, and team members, and corrections staff
Show enthusiasm to teach, understand and apply current best practices in classroom techniques and materials
Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
Work with corrections program staff to maintain safety in the classroom
Maintain accurate student records
Enter student attendance into Self-Service daily
Adhere to all facility rules, regulations, and security protocols
Monitor and control the use of potentially hazardous tools and ingredients
Report any incidents, safety concerns, or behavioral issues promptly to appropriate personnel
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
