Company Overview
Student Transportation of America (STA) is a leading provider of school bus transportation services dedicated to safety, reliability, and community partnership. With a focus on fostering a family-oriented environment, we serve numerous school districts across the country, ensuring students arrive safely and on time every day.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Staff Accountant that is an analytical hands-on team player, with solid General Accounting knowledge and experience and a great work ethic who is also a proactive problem solver to become an important addition to our Accounting Team. This position reports to the Regional Director of Financial Operations for the Western Region, headquartered in Goleta, CA. This position is responsible for providing accounting support to 21 branches located in California and Oregon as well as financial reporting to our Corporate Headquarters located in New Jersey.

Specific Duties:

Ensure efficient, accurate and timely financial results.
General Ledger account reconciliation, analysis, identification of issues, investigation of fluctuations, recommendation, and implementation of resolutions
Experience with general accounting functions: AR, AP, Payroll
Financial reporting for Region and Corporate management
Monthly accruals and allocation of various expenses
Preparation and input of journal entries, ensuring proper backup documentation
Adherence to internal controls
Meet all monthly and quarterly accounting close deadlines
Revenue reconciliation and recognition
Variance analysis to budgets
Support budget and forecasting activities
Recommend and implement process improvements
Prepare audit support and participate in internal and external audits
Prepare management reports and ad hoc analysis
Quarterly Fuel Tax Returns
Fuel reconciliations and accruals

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science, Accounting or relevant equivalent experience
Minimum 5 - 10 years’ experience in a large corporate environment
Working knowledge of GAAP
Ability to effectively prepare and present information and respond to questions at all levels within the organization
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
Motivated self-starter
Advanced Excel user
Payroll experience preferred, knowledge of UKG payroll system preferred
Experience with an enterprise-wide accounting system, Oracle preferred
