Full Job Description

This impressive achievement highlights our commitment to meeting stringent regulatory requirements while advancing avionics technology.

AIRO is developing the next generation of advanced General Aviation Avionics systems that will bring new levels of Functionality, Usability, Integration and Value to existing and new aircraft for a broad spectrum of General Aviation aircraft. AIRO is offering a unique opportunity to join a highly focused and motivated team of engineers in defining, designing, and implementing these advanced systems.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing quality control and assurance programs to ensure all products meet established standards of excellence. This role involves overseeing quality operations, leading investigations, interfacing customers, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the manufacturing process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as acting Quality Manager, ensuring continuity of the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with AS9100, FAA, and customer requirements.
Develop, implement, and maintain inspection, testing, and acceptance criteria aligned with aerospace standards and contractual obligations.
Lead First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102, ensuring full validation of product configuration and manufacturing processes.
Act as the primary interface for customer and regulatory quality matters, including audits, corrective actions, and compliance reporting.
Oversee in-process and final inspection activities to ensure product conformity and airworthiness.
Conduct engineering and documentation reviews for compliance with drawings, specifications, GD&T, and configuration control requirements.
Ensure proper traceability of materials, components, and processes, including certification and test documentation.
Evaluate and approve suppliers and special processes, ensuring compliance with NADCAP and customer-approved sources.
Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, PDCA).
Support risk management activities including PFMEA and control plans.
Analyze quality data, including nonconformances, escapes, and yield trends, to drive continuous improvement. (KPI’s)
Support and participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
Prepare and present quality metrics, risk assessments, and program status reviews to leadership.
Develop and deliver quality and compliance training to production and engineering teams.
Investigate and resolve customer complaints, escapes, and returns, ensuring timely containment and corrective action.

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION:

-STD-001 (Soldered Electrical/Electronic Assemblies).
IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies).
Strong knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements.
Proficiency in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and interpretation of complex aerospace drawings.
Familiarity with FAA regulations, PMA requirements, and airworthiness standards.
Knowledge of configuration management and document control in regulated environments.
Expertise in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action, and continuous improvement tools.
Ability to analyze statistical data, process capability, and inspection results.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access).
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and quality data systems preferred.
Effective communication skills with ability to interface with customers, auditors, and cross- functional teams.
Detail-oriented with a focus on compliance and risk mitigation.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production-driven environment.
Strong understanding of product traceability, certification packages, and calibration systems.
Familiarity with electro-mechanical assembly processes preferred.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 6+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing quality.
Experience supporting regulated production environments and customer audits required.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
Lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.
Perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and inspection activities.
Mobility within a production facility (~25,000 sq. ft.).
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull as required.
Strong verbal communication skills in English.
Correctable vision and hearing for inspection and verification tasks.
