Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Surgery Coordinator to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the central point of contact for surgical patients, providers, and staff, ensuring seamless coordination of all surgical procedures. Your proactive approach will facilitate efficient scheduling, accurate documentation, and compliance with healthcare regulations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient care excellence while utilizing your strong organizational and medical administrative skills.

Duties

Coordinate surgical schedules by managing appointments and ensuring timely communication with patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and support staff
Prepare and review comprehensive medical documentation, including care plans, consent forms, and pre-operative assessments in accordance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms to update patient records accurately
Verify insurance information, process medical billing claims, and ensure compliance with health insurance requirements like Medicare and Medicaid
Assist with medical coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding standards for accurate billing and documentation review
Manage patient communication via phone and in-person interactions with professionalism, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and customer service skills
Maintain organized medical records through filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and electronic health records management while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies
Support clinical staff by providing administrative support such as scheduling follow-up appointments, preparing documentation for procedures, and managing office supplies

Experience

Proven experience in a medical office setting or clinic environment with a focus on surgical coordination or medical administrative support
Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with electronic health records management is essential
Experience with medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and insurance verification processes
Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations
Demonstrated proficiency in clerical tasks including filing, typing (including 10 key), data entry, and document review
Excellent customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities
Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and clinical confidentiality policies
Prior clinic or dental clinic experience is a plus; familiarity with health information management systems enhances your fit for this role
