Polk County has an opening for a full-time Highway Maintenance position at the Highway Department. This position is located in Crookston. The primary duties for this position are the maintenance and repair of county roads, bridges, and parks by operating various heavy equipment, including motor grader, tandem truck, loader, forklift, and tractor/mower. Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and moderate experience in mechanical and heavy equipment operation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License with Class “A” endorsement. Wage range for this position is $27.09 – $34.32/hr, DOE and qualifications. - Maintains and repairs county roads, bridges and parks by operating various heavy equipment, including motor grader, tandem truck, loader, forklift and tractor/mower.

Inspect vehicle and equipment prior to operation to ensure safety and efficiency (engine, tires, lights, etc.) and report maintenance needs

Maintains and assists in repair of equipment, requests additional repair if necessary.

Maintains daily log by documenting time and equipment usage information.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Knowledge Required:

Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, including internal combustion and diesel engines. Knowledge of the use of basic tools, including steamers, air powered post drivers and chain saws.
Skills Required:

Skill in the operation of heavy equipment and shop tools.

Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Skills Preferred:

1-2 years prior experience in highway maintenance and/or construction labor work environment
High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in mechanical and heavy equipment operation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
