Geenen & Kolean is a well-established CPA firm based in Holland, Michigan, with one office serving small to medium-sized businesses across West Michigan. Our team consists of 3 partners, 13 professional staff, and 3 administrative staff, delivering personalized, high-quality services. We specialize in tax planning and preparation, bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, payroll preparation and compliance, and QuickBooks support, catering to a diverse range of industries.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our team in a full-time, in-office role at our Holland, Michigan office. The Tax Manager will play a critical role in managing client relationships, preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns, and overseeing tax planning and compliance projects. This position offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic team, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the growth of a reputable firm in West Michigan. The salary range is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

Manage client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for tax-related matters.
Prepare and review complex individual and business tax returns with accuracy and efficiency.
Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize client outcomes.
Prepare and review state and local income tax filings.
Oversee tax projects, ensuring timely completion and compliance with regulations.
Train and mentor new staff, fostering their professional development.
Collaborate with partners and team members to deliver exceptional client service.
Stay current on tax laws, regulations, and industry trends to provide informed advice.

Required:

Valid CPA license in good standing.
7+ years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax planning and preparation.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, and UltraTax software.
Expertise in preparing individual and business tax returns.
Strong tax planning skills and knowledge of federal tax regulations.
Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office and tax software.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to manage client relationships effectively.
Strong time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Preferred:

Experience with state and local tax (SALT) compliance and planning.
Advanced QuickBooks expertise or certifications (e.g., QuickBooks ProAdvisor).
