Description
The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, fit-up, welding, assembly, and finishing of structural steel, piping systems, pressure vessels, process skids, and miscellaneous metal components in accordance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable industry codes. This position plays a critical role in producing high-quality fabricated products while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
- Fit, fabricate, and weld assemblies in accordance with job instructions, engineering drawings, and quality requirements.
- Perform code-compliant welding utilizing GMAW (MIG), FCAW, SMAW (Stick), and GTAW (TIG) processes.
- Complete welds in accordance with ASME, AWS, API, and company welding procedures, as applicable.
- Perform joint preparation, layout, and fit-up activities per drawings, specifications, and welding procedures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
- Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, drills, air tools, saws, and other shop machinery.
- Safely operate forklifts, rigging equipment, and material handling devices.
- Operate cutting equipment.
- Use oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment for material preparation and fabrication.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using appropriate measuring tools.
- Assist with assembly and testing of fabricated components and finished products.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate production and quality documentation as required.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Support continuous improvement and productivity initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, foremen, quality personnel, and fellow team members to ensure project success.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to pass welding tests utilizing GMAW, FCAW, SMAW (3G and 4G), and/or GTAW (6G) processes.
- Ability to read and interpret weld symbols, welding procedures, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and forklifts.
- Ability to use oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and workmanship.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules as required to meet project demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASME pipe welding experience.
- Experience with structural steel, miscellaneous metals, pipe spool, and skid fabrication.
- GTAW welding experience in the 6G position.
- Experience with layout and fit-up of complex weldments.
- Familiarity with pressure vessel fabrication and ASME Section VIII, Division 1 requirements.
- Knowledge of stair, platform, and handrail fabrication.
- Experience operating shop equipment such as mills, drill presses, ironworkers, and other fabrication machinery.
- Familiarity with weld inspection processes and nondestructive examination (NDE) methods including RT, MT, PT, and VT.
- Current welding certifications.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various positions throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier materials with assistance or mechanical devices.
- Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, welding fumes, heat, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding hood, respirator, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
Work Environment:
This position works primarily in a fabrication shop environment and routinely interacts with production employees, engineers, project managers, quality personnel, and customers as needed. The Production Foreman is expected to lead by example, maintain high standards of safety and quality, and foster a productive and professional work environment.
