Director of Engagement
Job purpose
The Director of Member & Community Engagement is responsible for building, strengthening, and sustaining relationships that advance the mission of the Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this position serves as a key ambassador for the organization by cultivating meaningful partnerships with Chamber investors, business leaders, community organizations, and public stakeholders.
The Director leads strategies that strengthen member engagement, improve retention, support business growth, and expand the Chamber's influence throughout Mesa County. Success in this role is measured by the ability to create exceptional member experiences, foster long-term investor relationships, identify opportunities for growth, and position the Chamber as a trusted advocate and convener for the business community.
This position requires a strategic relationship builder who combines business acumen with exceptional communication, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills. The Director must balance relationship-driven service with data-informed decision-making while representing the Chamber with professionalism, credibility, and integrity.
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position with full benefits, including paid time off, health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.

Key Responsibilities
Membership Strategy & Investor Success
Lead the Chamber's membership strategy by strengthening investor relationships, increasing retention, supporting membership growth, and ensuring members receive measurable value from their investment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement membership retention and growth strategies.
- Manage the complete investor lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewal, and retention.
- Monitor membership trends and key performance indicators while recommending strategies for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the President & CEO and leadership team to align membership efforts with organizational priorities.
Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships
Strengthen the Chamber's presence and influence by cultivating meaningful relationships throughout the business and civic community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain relationships with businesses, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, community partners, and regional stakeholders.
- Represent the Chamber at meetings, networking events, community functions, and public engagements.
- Identify partnership opportunities that advance the Chamber's mission and strategic priorities.
- Position the Chamber as a trusted resource and collaborative community leader.
Member Experience & Engagement
Ensure Chamber investors receive meaningful opportunities to connect, engage, and realize value from their membership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee member engagement strategies, networking opportunities, and programs that strengthen investor relationships.
- Continuously evaluate member services and recommend improvements based on feedback and organizational goals.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to deliver a consistent, high-quality member experience.
- Support initiatives that increase member satisfaction, engagement, and long-term retention.
Organizational Leadership & Collaboration
Work collaboratively across the organization to advance Chamber priorities while supporting a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with staff to integrate membership strategies with marketing, advocacy, workforce development, programming, and economic development initiatives.
- Support organizational planning and strategic initiatives as assigned by the President & CEO.
- Contribute to organizational performance by sharing information, solving problems collaboratively, and supporting cross-functional success.
- Assist with budget planning, sponsorship development, and resource stewardship related to member engagement initiatives.
Innovation & Organizational Excellence
Promote continuous improvement by evaluating performance, identifying opportunities, and implementing innovative approaches that strengthen the Chamber and its value to investors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Stay informed of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Recommend and implement improvements to systems, processes, and member engagement strategies.
- Measure results, evaluate effectiveness, and adjust strategies to maximize organizational impact.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Chamber's mission and strategic objectives.
Performance & Accountability
- Establish measurable goals aligned with the Chamber's strategic plan.
- Monitor progress using key performance indicators and regularly communicate results to the President & CEO.
- Take ownership of outcomes by identifying challenges early, recommending solutions, and adjusting strategies as needed.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred but not required
· Proven experience in program development, event planning, and marketing, preferably within a chamber of commerce or similar business-oriented organization.
· Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to execute multiple initiatives concurrently.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a keen eye for detail.
· Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
· Creative thinker with the ability to generate fresh and impactful ideas.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Experience working with diverse groups of partners and stakeholders of various levels
· Experience working with planning and managing meetings and events
· Strong presentation skills as well as written, verbal and communications skills
· Maintaining a variety of files and records.
· Responding to requests and inquiries from the general public.
· Understanding and following oral and written instructions.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
· Ability to collect and analyze data and formulate a course of action.
· Ability to maintain confidential information and materials.
· Ability to read, write and speak fluent English.
· Must have a valid driver’s license
Working conditions
· Primarily office-based with community outreach and event participation.
· Work will be conducted within the constraints of frequent interruptions.
· Travel required within Mesa County; occasional regional travel possible.
· Some early morning and evening hours required.
Physical requirements
· Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
· Adequate vision and hearing for presentations, computer work, and engagement with staff, members, and community partners.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,500
