Summary:
The Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning is responsible for overseeing curriculum implementation, providing instructional support to teaching staff, and ensuring high-quality early childhood education. This role supports professional development, teacher effectiveness, and compliance with educational standards. Working collaboratively with the Center Director and the Assistant Director of Family & Community Engagement, this position enhances culturally responsive, multilingual instruction and fosters an engaging learning environment for children aged 0-5.
Job Duties
● Supports teaching teams in lesson planning and instructional strategies aligned with curriculum guidelines.
● Provides coaching, mentoring, and professional development to improve teacher effectiveness and instructional quality.
● Ensures dual language development integration into curriculum and program models.
● Assists in developing and implementing professional development plans and training sessions.
● Conducts regular classroom observations and provides constructive feedback to teaching staff.
● Collaborates with staff to develop and maintain an engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
● Supports teachers in preparing for Family/Teacher Conferences to communicate student progress effectively.
● Supervises the Kitchen Assistant and ensures compliance with the food program.
● Ensures compliance with state, federal, and funding guidelines (including Early Head Start, MI State Preschool Program, and other grant requirements).
● Participates in and supports center-wide professional development activities.
● Performs other duties as assigned by the Center Director.

Required Qualifications:
● Completed CDA credential with at least 480 hours of childcare experience in a licensed home or center.
● Bachelor’s degree (Preferred) or higher in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field.
● Three years of experience working in an early childhood education setting.
● Knowledge of early childhood education principles and best practices.
Required Skills:
● Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
● Experience working with multilingual and culturally diverse communities.
● Bilingual/Multilingual (Preferred).
● Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
● Ability to provide constructive feedback and support professional growth.

Physical Demand & Working Conditions:
● Position is identified as having regular contact with children in accordance with public law; therefore, a criminal background check must be completed.
● CPR/First Aid Certified upon hire.
● Complete all required training as outlined by LARA.
● Fingerprints from State Michigan.
● Copies of school transcripts or training hours.
● Program activities frequently take place in the center/site (permanent and mobile), family homes, and other community locations.
● Walking, standing, bending, and regularly lifting or carrying small objects and young children is required.
● The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions.
● Regular and predictable attendance is essential for this role.
