Full Job Description

The MOKA Foundation is dedicated to advancing the mission of MOKA through fundraising, community engagement, donor relations, and philanthropic initiatives that support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking a passionate, organized, and relationship-focused Development Associate to help strengthen our fundraising efforts and expand our impact.

Position Summary

The Development Associate supports the planning, implementation, and follow-up of MOKA Foundation initiatives. This role plays a key part in fundraising, event coordination, donor engagement, marketing, communications, and administrative support. The ideal candidate is a collaborative professional with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for nonprofit work.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

Support the Development Director in developing and executing strategic fundraising plans and initiatives.
Assist with annual campaigns, direct mail appeals, donor communications, and fundraising activities.
Support capital and endowment campaigns as directed.
Build and maintain positive relationships with current donors while identifying opportunities for increased engagement and support.
Maintain and update donor records and databases to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.

Marketing & Communications

Research and develop content for newsletters, donor stories, social media, and other Foundation publications.
Collaborate with internal teams to create and distribute print and digital communications.
Share fundraising updates and philanthropic opportunities with employees to foster a culture of giving and transparency throughout the organization.

Community & Event Engagement

Represent MOKA Foundation at community events, chamber functions, company expos, and other outreach opportunities.
Assist in planning, coordinating, and hosting fundraising events.
Collaborate with board members, volunteers, community leaders, and stakeholders to advance Foundation initiatives.

Administrative Support

Prepare and distribute donor acknowledgements, thank-you letters, and fundraising materials.
Record meeting minutes and provide administrative support for Foundation activities.
Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of two years of experience or relevant education in nonprofit administration, fundraising, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Skills & Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Ability to build meaningful relationships with donors, employees, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
Knowledge of communications, marketing, and public relations best practices.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Technical Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar business applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, calendars, and videoconferencing platforms.
Experience with databases, donor management software, reporting tools, and graphic design applications is preferred.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Frequent computer-based work and extended periods of sitting.
Regular travel to MOKA locations and community events; reliable transportation is required.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Occasional evening and weekend work required for fundraising and community events.
This position can be based in Grand Rapids, Muskegon or Zeeland.
